Terrible news. Cec was one of my heroes in the late 50's and his life story was truly inspirational, from childrens home to Grammar School/College Lecturer. Condolences to his family. RIP Cec.

Ah man, thats genuinely gutting. I met him a few times and hes was such a nice bloke, a proper gent. I read his book years ago and as Keith said, it was truly inspirational and made me appreciate just how hard he had to work to get anywhere. RIP a proper Town legend.

I was fortunate enough as a young lad see Ces play his first ever games of Rugby League in a local factories competition at Parkside, it was obvious then that he would go on to greater things.
Later when we visited Workington I had the chance to speak to him, and again when he came to Hunslet.---A great player, and a great gentleman.

i was fortunate to know cec for many years. he had a second home at papcastle and of course a cleaning business based in workington. t.c. thompson. anyone who has not read his book, should read it. its an inspiration for everyone. i suppose by the weekend it will be well known about his passing, perhaps 2 minutes silence at the home game on sunday would be a fitting tribute

2 great obit's to celebrate the life of a Town legend and by what people have written a great man.
There should be a fitting tribute at the next home game.
He continued to support the club that gave him opportunities in life by advertising in the progs for many years

There was a glowing tribute to Cec read out at the last home game against Skolars, Shaun, followed by one minutes silence.
You are right he was a great man. As a young teenager I played for Town's Under 19's back in the late 50's and we sometimes got to train with the first team. Cec always had time for us young'uns and he was as hard as iron but always had a smile. He was certainly one of my heroes.
