costing half a million can be used 7 days a week all year round,great idea commercially.we are also biulding a rugby league academy just down the rd.

To me, this could go either way, but as it's in use by super bowl winners it's obviously good enough to play on. Whether it beats grass is another thing, but it's commercial sense.

bloody farce we have played RL on grass for over 100 years it will be interesting to see how many injuries occur next season on this pitch I do hope other clubs do not go down this road

We've played without technology for 100 years. We've played without salary caps for 100 years. That's a non argument when you're talking about new technology.

For the benefit of those who didn't see B & A what kind of artificial turf are we talking about because Astroturf was associated with injuries in American football. What kinds of testing have they done? Because rugby league isn't American football, the tackling technique is different.

It's a 3G pitch, dubbed an 'i-pitch' as it's supposed to be 'intelligent' turf (!). This is obviously marketing guff unless we get players names popping up underneath the players during the game, however, if you haven't seen the new 3G pitches, they bear little resemblance to traditional 'astroturf' and in fact, this won't be the first 3G RL pitch in the country, or indeed the NW. Leigh have one at the training complex of their new stadium, it's used by Leigh East junior teams (and I would assume the open age sections) and is pretty awesome tbh. One of my kids has played on it and loved it, unlike old astroturf surfaces, it takes studs and looks sort of halfway between real and artificial grass.

not a Widnes they haven't!! Who can forget the all-mud grassless pitch at Naughton Park in the 60s when they spread GL50 (or summat) de-icer to clear the pitch but instead killed all the grass!!

I've played RU on a 3G pitch, and it was very good. But then I am comparing it to amateur pitches, not pro-level. Still, I can see no reasons why it won't be suitable.

Ask the guys from Leigh East and the National Conference/NWC sides that have played their because im pretty sure thats what they got
