I note that the Labour MP for Leigh Andy Burnham has publicly stated that he thinks that Super League should not be a closed shop and automatic promotion and relegation should be reinstated.
Good on you Andy.
If Rugby League fans get 100,000 people to sign a petition to back this proposal that a debate would then be forced in the House. Seems the way forward to me!
Over to you Puggy!

Right then, I personally have my doubts anything will come of this but you never know if you don't try, as I never tire of saying!
I'll contact the MP and see how best to go forward.
Pugwash.

I'm convinced that there must be 100,000 Rugby League followers that would sign a petion to scrap the Super League closed shop.
Even if these people have to come from club from outside the Super League, as we know that they are happy doing a runner with the millions and saying sod off to the rest.
A bring back promotion and relegation petition started at Hornets would go down well.
P.s Andy Burnham is a top bloke I've met him a few times.
I think it say's how to start a petition on the Office of the Prime Ministers web site, but don't bother asking him as he is clueless.

While I agree with the sentiment, whats it got to do with MPs? Maybe if they spent more time checking the authenticity of their expenses claims and less on matters that have nothing to do with government there might be a bit more dosh available for real needs.
I look forward to seeing MPs for Salford, Wakefield, Castleford, Bradford, Huddersfield, (dare I say Wigan, St Helens and Leeds)etc joining the 'outcry'!
The only people who can change this are the people who vote for these things at the RFL. The turkeys voted for Christmas Im afraid, got their thirty pieces of silver and how many of them are left running clubs now.
Great game run by clowns - and they will all be in the hospitality suite this weekeknd.

The point is = At least it can be debated and views can be heard. Then, your right we can establish that it is a closed shop.
And a debate in the House will also allow MP's from Rochdale, Oldham, Dewsbury, Leigh, York, etc to have a say. Hopfully telling the House that Professional RL outside Super Leage is on it's knees.
Can't see why not myself.

I'm sure people will be really happy to see our elected members spending time discussing Super League in parliment, after all nothing else is happening in the world of inportance is there.
Success does not consists in never making blunders, but in never making the same one the second time.

No rugby league fans of super league teams (ie thousands) will think its a waste of time but the hundreds who go to Docaster, Oldham Rochdale etc will think its wonderful. In what we call a democracy the majority rule.I'm sure Rugby League fans would be really happy actually
Average joe on the street will think they ought to be dealing with the major issues affecting the country - and the organisation of Rugby League - a private organisation with no 'public interest' will not be seen as one of them (thats why they were having to sell tickets for the final at 10 pound each). Sure they can talk about it, just as they can talk about what will win the 3.30 at haydock park.
And Gordon Brown will think you're a bigot anyway!

No Public Interest? The RFL as an organisation gets millions of pounds of public money every year via various organisations and grants and Central Government

The public interest lies in those organisations doling out public funds to private organisations like the RFL, not in the RFL. So maybe Leigh's MP might want to refocus his attention on why taxpayers in his constituency are funding organisations like the RFL instead of how the RFL, a private organisation, is run.
What that about facts and getting them right?
