Whilst it's great to see so many Cumbrian lads in the squad maybe it only highlights the lack of opportunities for good young players in the county. I suspect that many of their counterparts from Lancashire and Yorkshire are ineligible because they're hooked up with SL and CC clubs' Academy schemes.

Ah that answers my question of lack of Londoners.

Head coach Kelvin Lockett has named a side that includes players from 16 different community clubs, with Wigan St Judes the only team to provide two players in scrum half Tom Whittle and second rower Kieran Ford.

Tomorrow’s game is the start of a busy period for the Lions as they are also set to face Scotland next Wednesday at Whitehaven and then Wales in Wrexham a week on Sunday.

The clash against Wales will be played as a curtain-rasier to the Gillette Four Nations encounter between Wales and Australia later that day.

1 Sam Forester (Maryport)
2 Hershall Ward (Leicester Storm)
3 Matty Welham (Myton)
4 Tom Rogers (Wakefield College)
5 Leon Tatlock (Thatto Heath Crusaders)
6 Jack Humphries (Cottingham Tigers)
7 Tom Whittle (Wigan St Judes)
8 Chris Tomlinson (Glasson Rangers)

I think the final score was 24 - 22 to England . After the French dominated the first half and England the second half.

It was 25-22. England snuck in a drop goal at the death. Some superb defence from the French in the second half and with a bit more composure going forward they'd probably have done enough to be too far in the lead by the time the English attack started to fire properly. I'll sort my photos out from it later but for now here's the happy winning team:

It was.

Two more tests for the Community Lions, they really should walk over Scotland and Wales unless those two have hidden depths I'm not aware of.
