For those of us that remember and I certainly do it was 20 years ago today since we had an away match at Scarborough Pirates on a Monday evening live on British Aerospace Sportscast. It was on this day that a certain Eddie Rombo made his debut for Dewsbury and nobody will ever forget him scoring a magnificent try with his first touch of the ball in Dewsbury colours.

He also closed our try scoring with an equally magnificent try. We went on to beat Scarborough that evening 17-16 with memories that will last forever.

Tries: Rombo 2 and Sidebottom
Goals: Vasey 2
D/G: Shuttleworth[/indent]

Incidentally also had free admission to the match after the players gave some “spare” tickets to us which we later found out were for their wives/girlfriends.

That triggers a number of memories.

I along with a number of others who couldn't make the game were watching it at Batley.

Good grief was that 20 years ago . I remember it well eddie scored the winning try late on through a wall of defenders in the corner where you entered the ground , i think len casey was the scarborough coach and the chairman was geoffrey richmond who went on to be the somewhat controversial chairman of Bradford city fc.

We were there, complete with Santa hats(I know, there is always one).
A cold night but Eddie warmed it up a bit.
Sure that was the night when one over enthusiastic Dewsbury fan fell over the hoardings and onto the pitch while celebrating Eddie,s try.Classic.
Eddie gave us some great moments.

I remember watching the game at the Butchers.
My brother said "i dont know why we've signed Rombo", 10 seconds later he was running in for the first of many Rombo-esque scores.
The venerable sage Mr Maklin was commentating and when eddie dragged 4 scarborough players over the line with him for his 2nd try i knocked over a pint of beer in my excitement.
the sense of loss remains with me to this day)

What a game that was. As you say Eddie scored with his first touch. Went right from the kick off to touch down under the posts. I think I nearly pee'd myself. The rest is history..Happy days indeed.

Will never forget that night. Remember going to get supporters bus straight after school and being picked up by my dad who was asleep in his car in Dewsbury bus station car park well after midnight. It was one of Russell Smith's first games as ref and remember talking to him after and he said he'd never forget it. Still have the video of the tries but the British Aerospace broadcast never did Eddie's first justice with all its different camera angles. Wish I knew how to put VHS onto YouTube.
