From what I can gather all teams from the NWC leagues are balloting their players on a switch to summer as it looks from the outside looking in that the league as it stands currently is crumbling. What's everyone else doing, teams that are going to go have to make their decision in next 7 days?

We haven't discussed it recently at Pioneers.
I heard about this on sunday Joe, what are you going to do about the rest of your NWC fixtures until March?

We will be fulfilling the fixtures till the end of the season but it just depends on how long it goes on for really because it looks most likely that 75% of the premier division is going to switch if not all of them. The deadline is on Sunday so you's better get a chinwag on.

Does this mean that Barrow Island will looking to take their A team to summer rugby also?

By the looks of it some teams are struggling and are looking to bring in players from other codes, which is only a short term solution and not sustainable, thes players will burn out playing all year round.

According to the RFL website Ulverston and Hindpool have gone into the summer league also, leaving only Pioneers, Walney and Dalton playing in the winter league.

All professional teams play summer, all junior (U'8s-U'18s) teams are now playing summer and the majority of amateur open age teams are now playing summer. In 4-5 years time all the juniors that will be coming through will have only played summer rugby and thus a natural progression into open age summer rugby. Some winter leagues may continue but the vast majority will be summer.

That list is not 100% accurate and includes teams who have only made enquiries and not actually put an application in, also some of those teams will never materialise.

Iv not heard that argument hendy, I just can't see an arguement to stay playing winter anymore. And like the sandrat Wilson says the juniors will only have played in summer soon, so numbers would only get worse at open age level.

Only a couple of whispers i've heard Joe, on a personal note i was all for it when super league went full time and thought it was a good idea, just think that people are not going to book holidays in the winter like some of the highly said pros do because they can afford to fly anywhere in the world, between June and September you are going to get alot of people still wanting to go on holiday, lads that play cricket and golf may have to make a decision on what sport they are going to choose.

Well said, the completion rate for games during the summer is dreadful, you get some teams travelling with as little as 6 to 8 players and borrow players when they get there, the teams that played in the heartlands where made up with other teams players (not many with be playing in the summer) until the NCL went summer (bought off) the RLC was in bad health.

What are the rest off the teams planning? are they going to fulfill fixtures and play without a break between seasons.
Muz(Millom coach) wont let our 1st teamers play A team to give them a break, which is right ,there doing preseason training on wednesdays and saturdays.

Because as of next year most open age sides will be playing summer. Maybe only about 60-70% but it will be the case. Unless you just mean in Yorkshire?

If Hindpool and Ulverston do switch to summer then that's the 5-3 majority that could take the B & D League to summer. If they stay winter I can't see NWCL teams wanting lots of trips to Barrow every year bearing in mind they'll be smaller clubs facing more trips. Especially if the likes of Woolston join the Pennine League.
