Me neither. "Predatory approaches" eh?
"Journalists are meant to be neutral, for God's sake." - Stephen 'Wiggy' Jones

"Perhaps it would be better that future criticism of sports be made on the narrow basis of what is being discussed, without reference to other sports, unless those sports offer a solution to the problem in hand." - Brian 'Pigface' Moore

"What happens in rugby union? A player takes the ball, moves forward a little and gets tackled. A whole load of players then roll about on the ground. Pheep! The referee gives a penalty." - Simon Barnes

Well that gives a firmer footing for future potential development. Eventually getting a stadium with 50k+ capacity on the best side of the Pennines would be nice.

I'm really glad that we have a governing body that can see long term benefits in deals such as this purchase, helping out clubs that have been in financial difficulties, choosing exposure and publicity over dirty cash from gambling, and are genuinely trying to develop the game across the breadth of Britain.

I am however, dying to see what some of the dyed-in-the-wool fans of of other clubs will make of it though!

Another example of the RFL helping out a once proud, but now struggling, traditional, Heartlands club.

Less of the old.

Such a pity the RFL never felt the need to protect several other grounds that have long since been predated, let alone been the "subject of approaches"!
Rugby League - great game, shame about the administration.

News update 30/02/12
RFL Chairman Richard Lewis said the move would bring security to Belle Vue, which has recently been the subject of predatory approaches.

“This arrangement is absolutely the right thing to do because it safeguards the future of one of the sport’s most famous stadia,” said Lewis.

“Belle Vue is famous throughout the world and it would be a tragedy were the venue to be lost to the sport in the way that other evocative Rugby League venues have already been lost.

“We have paid market value for the stadium and the Wildcats will pay market value rental to the RFL to play their home fixtures at Belle Vue.”

Ok look at the date, this aint never going to happen............

lets see what there plans are before we rubbish it completly but i hope the rfl are not going to lose money on the deal by charging bradford a peppercorn rent on the ground . to my mind they would need to charge a minimum of %6 per year of the purchase price to make it worthwhile quite possibly more if there going to be responsable for the upkeep of the ground.
now about buying other grounds to keep it fair have they thought about buying whitehavens ground from the present owners or indeed buying swinton a ground . fairs fair lets get the rfl to help more clubs not just super league clubs.
ah a sunday night in front of the telly watching old rugby league games.
does life get any better .

But that is never going to happen is it? which is why buying a super league franchise's ground isnt fair! so Bradford dont need to apply for a franchise next time with their ground and future secure??

RFL’s property portfolio includes: Cougar Park; Spotland; Normanton; Hensingham; Maryport & Buslingthorpe Vale. Do they all get an automatic SL franchise?
Leeds Rhinos and St Albans Centurions fan. Also follow (to a lesser extent) Catalans Dragons, Hemel Stags, Featherstone Rovers and NW Crusaders

According to the article:

“We have paid market value for the stadium and the Bulls will pay market value rental to the RFL to play their home fixtures at Odsal.”

Do the RFL own Spotland and Cougar Park outright or is it just a partial ownership?
