At the meeting some months ago at Swinton Legion Chris Haslam proposed the formation of a supporters association with the aim of organising social events and away travel. If I recall correctly one or two individuals voiced the opinion that such an organisation wasnt required as the supporters trust was there to fulfill a similar role.I was left with the impression that Cliff and the Trust would meet to discuss ideas/views etc and propose a way forward for the mutual benefit of the club and us fans. With two weeks to go to our first away game at York there has been no mention of any away travel for 2012 or indeed if anything has developed with the proposed supporters association.Does anybody know anything?

Chris came down to a Trust meeting which we discussed away travel. Personally I was of the same opinion as Barnie in that we might just be able to create enough interest for a coach but half would want to go early for a drink and the other half just for the match.

To be fair, as has been mentioned there are a lot of people who travel by car and it may be a case of trying to encourage those who travel in their car to jump on the coach.

JK did ask to see me regarding the supporters assoc. before Christmas but due to location and me working away the last couple of trust meetings we've not had chance to meet.

I’ve got a couple of quotes which we’ll discuss at the next trust meeting. Members are invited down on the 14th to discuss(those who are allowed out on Valentine's Day!). If we were to go ahead it would make sense to start for league season.

It's not something we want to make a loss on, we did on the Trust bus to Moor Lane and SP but at least those people were putting money through Swinton's turnstiles.

Who on here would be interested in taking the coach, I expect it’ll be arriving for the match and leaving pretty much straight after, it’ll be cheaper that way and we would expect more bums on seats.

For example the cost in a car I estimate for York :-

140 miles - 9 miles to the litre = 15 litres at 1.30 = 20 + 50% running costs = 30 quid

I may be wrong but I think most of the fans who preferred to travel early to games to visit local hostelries no longer follow the club.Would imagine they would number no more than seven or eight.I am not suggesting that we would fill a 52 seater as in the old Fieldsends Coach that used to run from Station Rd but would think some suitably sized vehicle from a local firm could be found to cater for our needs.Sadly there are not that many fans who seem to utilise the forum on a regular basis, perhaps a flyer at one of the northern rail games could be distributed to gauge interest.A quick perusal of some of the other club forums seems to suggest that they operate some form of travel to away games either administered by the club or the fans.Im surprised nothing has been mentioned about travel to home games at the LSV ?

I would travel on a club coach, bringing at least one extra person with me, possibly two or three depending on availability.

Fieldsend's? That got me thinking, here we go again, down Memory Lane.

In my teens, I recall the main coach company was Rigby's (was their HQ in Patricroft?) who ran coaches from both the "Top Road" and the "Bottom Road". Not too many fans had cars in those long gone days, days when the Lions really were kings.
