I have to say, although I've been critical in the past on occasions, Salford really seem to be pulling out all of the stops ahead of next week's official stadium opener. I honestly think a sellout could be on the cards.

Quote

Ten Reason to Be There:

1) See the Reds play Castleford in the first ever Super League game in the fabulous new Salford City Stadium – a really historic moment

2) X Factor phenomenon Amelia Lily is performing at half time – the most high profile act ever to perform at a Reds game!

3) There is an on-site funfair from 2pm, provided by Northwest Funfairs, with rides, stalls, face painters and food including burgers and chips and even a carvery!

4) Real Radio Fan Zone from 2pm outside the stadium, with Real presenters, live entertainment and giveaways, with an outdoor bar for refreshments

5) Two chances to win £1000 – The Golden Kick before the game, sponsored by Club La Santa, and Loot in the Boot at half time, sponsored by Claybank Motors

6) One lucky fan will win a £100 JD Sports Voucher!

7) On-pitch interviews with Reds legends and dignitaries, including Chairman John Wilkinson OBE

8) See the World Famous Red Hot Flames cheerleading troupe dance before the games

9) Pre-Match performances by The Danceworks – guarantee you do not want to miss this!

10) The last ever appearance by Reds’ mascot Ignito who is returning to his home planet! There will be a new mascot arriving at the next home game – who the devil could it be??

Lets hope its a terrific success.Trust a number of neutrals turn out for it.A sell out would be a great way to start.John Wilkinson certainly deserves it - frankly he should get some sort of award from the Salford supporters.

Good on Salford- Finally! I hope that they sell out not just this game but a number of others as well and that this is well reported in the MEN etc.

A bit of filler in there, but mostly very positive ideas.

World famous cheerleaders? So if I go to a pub in Rio someone will have heard of them? They're not even famous in Salford! Interviews with John Wilkinson? A £100 voucher? Not exactly enticing.

For me, what they have got right is courting the radio, the singer, (and I've no idea if she is good but she has been on the X Factor so it's publicity), the fun fair. It's good that they are making an occasion of it. It's bang on what they needed to do.

This is great news, Pottsy. I must admit that I was beginning to doubt that they were going to do anything, but it looks like they're going in for a short, sharp, high-intensity promo rather than a long-drawn-out one.

Fingers crossed. 10,000 in the ground, a great game and, of course, the right result. Not too much to ask for, is it?

I still wish they'd pull their finger out and target the local RL teams around Salford/Manchester area as they really are missing a trick.

The season ticket/membership offers for amateur players/students/kids are the best in Super League but they don't publicise it. I've spoken to the chairmen of two of the biggest local clubs in the past few days and neither had knew anything about these discounts.

My sister and brother in law run the juniors at Eccles (which is the city's biggest club and 10 mins walk from the new ground) and they knew nothing of it either; I only found out purely by chance myself.

The club has proven that it can market individual games brilliant (eg, the sellout against Catalans and the likely full house next week) and probably use social media better than any club in the UK, but its frustrating that they don't seem to be joining the dots between community work and marketing.

I still hope they can pack the place next week though and have measures in place to track the newcomers (data capture etc) and encourage them to attend regularly.

Should Salford have picked a more glamourous team to play on the opening night? No disrespect to Cas but if they had kicked off against Wire they would have been guarenteed a 6000 away support.

I presume Salford don't pick. Plus Cas will bring a good following.

This looks good, Amelia Lily is definitely a coup. She might not have won but she is recent and will certainly help give the impression of a big game and help persuade some other family members to come maybe.

If I was cynical, I might question whether they should have to do this for their first match, but I'm not so I won't.

I think clubs request who they want to play as first game at the new ground. I know Wire picked Wakey as they have a small away support so all the wire fans would be able to see the match.

You would not want to risk selling out and being left with a lot of Salford based fans missing out.

It's about selling out yes, but to your home market.

Imagine a group of Manchester lads fancying the game them finding out 6,000 Warrington fans have bought up all the spare tickets so they can't go.

Absolutely. Assuming the club has picked, it's picked well IMO.

First focus needs to be drawing in locals and the first match is always going to have more chance of don't that.

If they can sell out this without too many away fans it gives the lub plenty of hope of achieving more sell outs against those teams who do fetch a large following.

Will the road and more importantly the path leading to the stadium be finished? If its raining there could be quite a few angry muddy punters.

I walked up to the stadium yesterday and all the roads and footpaths appeared to have been completed, there is the road/track on the left as you are going up the lay by which is used for traffic exiting part of the car park that could do with being cleaned up though.

The best way to walk to the stadium is to follow the footpath that runs along the tarmacadam road.

Some of the groundwork's are still ongoing but there is no impact on the spectators.

Ok, this is interesting.

I think Salford have in that case picked well. Castleford will bring a decent following, probably 1000 or so leaving Salford with 11,000 to sell to local people. After the Catalans 10,000 they must have been confident of being able to do this.

A great game with a good atmosphere and hopefully (sorry Cas fans) a Salford win and they might just be able to start something...

Not saying you are wrong about Manchester lads but that would make me want to try harder the next home game.

Scarcity has its own value!

Can anyone post a pic of the superb poster?
