Cronulla and Carney crush Manly in trial:

http://www.smh.com.a...0203-1qy5d.html

Perhaps this reflects the loss of coach Des Hasler (Canterbury) and key players Hopoate (Mormon mission), Robertson (London) and Rodney (London).

Whatever the reason, it suggests that Manly are not yet ready for the big occasion, while Leeds certainly will be.

Isn't it time that we recognise the absurdity of the current situation where the English club is already two or three weeks into the professional regular season, while the NRL club is still in the preseason trial phase?

Moreover the teams are not exactly the same ones that won their respective championships. They may not even have the same coach, as is the case this year.

We need to have the WCC played at the end of the regular season, two weeks after the respective grand finals.

Its a friendly and nothing can be read in to it at all. They have had quite a disruptive off season but they'll still turn up at Headingley and put in a good performance so Id be surprised if anyone thought that Leeds'll crush them!

I hope that Leeds don't crush them. But Manly is in a bad way at the moment.

Has to be about the expansion teams, doesn't it.

A top four champions league is the way to go. Our best 4 sides in Wire, wigan, leeds and saints would give a good account of themselves.

If Leeds don't crush them you'll say the SL is weak, if Leeds crush them you'll say that Manly were under prepaired. You're probably best of not watching and just let the rest of us enjoy it.

I was at the game and the sharks looked very, very strong... a little surprisingly so as the squad lacked Gallen, Fifita, Smith, Kelly and Tupou.. only half the game was played with first grade players, and Manly did look a little rusty and gave limited game time to some key players.

You can be assured that they will be ready to face Leeds.

I don't know if I can take your assurance to the bank. What I can say with assurance however is that the game is being played at the wrong time of the year.

There's NEVER a right time of the year for the Aussies. They like to whinge about everything just in case they lose.

This is not about whether or not Aussies whinge. It is about having a fair contest between two equally prepared teams, in the context of each having just won their respective competitions. Holding the match in October is the only context that makes any sense. (for the record many wise judges like Craig Bellamy agree with me completely).

World Club Challenge is a joke of a game, Super league teams not only always get to play the game at home, which means Australian teams need to travel 24 hours to play, NRL teams also play the game during their pre season which means the players aren't fully fit and haven't gelled as a team yet, I think this game could mean something if both Australia and England took turns at home games and the game was played during both NRL and Super league regular seasons.
