An algorithm that takes in 'key performance indicators' (possession, number of sets of six, number of breaks, meters gained etc.) and predicts the score at the end of the match. As the match goes on, more stats will be fed in and the prediction should become more accurate.

I'm a bit confused as to why sky would want this. If it is successful in predicting the score then doesn't this take away some of the enjoyment of watching the match?

Does anyone think it could measure the enthusiasm/interest with which it has been greeted (Phil Clarke notwithstanding)?

Agreed on both counts

Margin-Meter utterley pointless and was totally wrong

Betts was a poor Championship coach, what on earth made anyone think that he'd be any good in SL?

Shouldn't people at least give him a chance to fail?

jeez, whilst I agree it is a bit pointless it is just a bit of fun and completely ignorable, it obviously provides a talking point otherwise it wouldn't have trended on twitter. I really wish people would lighten up, we're one game into a new season and already the board is one big whinge.

Our game is continually praised for new and innovative ideas but this is just pathetic.
I don't think it helps when the bloke in charge of the Margin Meter is a complete buffoon as well.

You could tell Wakey were going to win that game from about the 20 minute mark, even though they were behind. The MM was at that stage predicting a comfy Widnes win. The MM is a novel idea but it's never going to be subtle  enough to pick up things that can't really be measured by stats.

Quite.

Utterly daft idea, obviously won't last but a good bit of fun and gave the panel something to talk about in relation to the likely winning margin rather than banging on about the ref which is their normal default setting.

#rugbyleague will never trend so it's good we got an aspect of the game that did.

Its just the momentum metre like on Rugby 08.

If it gave a percentage instead of predicting a score (cant wait for it to predict a score in the 79th minute and have Clark proclaiming it to be the next Nostradamus). Which would give a better stat for the game.

IIRC, even Shaun McRae was pointing that out about 20 minutes in. Something about Widnes failing to break the Wakefield line after God-knows-how-many ptbs in their 20 metre area. Then Wakefield almost scoring through Cockayne and Lauitiiti strolling through to score with ease on Wakefield's two sorties into Widnes' half.

The "margin metre" is a nonsense, but it is relatively harmless. It's the whole Sky presentation team that gets my goat.

Sky have been involved in RL long enough to know that this is exactly the sort of thing RL fans will absolutely love hating.

It's silly but harmless, creates a talking point and a bit of interest around the game.
Astute analysis from a Wigan fan:

Rumour going around Headingley that Wire will have to play the second half with 12 men.

It seems that they forgot to bring the half time oranges, and Solomona ate Chris Bridge instead.

Don't know why he was hungry, as he looked as though he had eaten the whole youth team before the game started.
