All the West Riding Youth league clubs were accepted into the Yorkshire Junior League with immediate effect and will begin the summer (4 seasons ) season in 4 weeks time. 5 new clubs also joined (us, Swillington, Birkenshaw, North Leeds Leopards and Bentley) so it's going to be a big league. Last season the U16s and above would have moved on to the Yorkshire Combination League to join with the Hull clubs - as of a few weeks ago that league was still winter based but with overlapping seasons something will have to give and I suspect the whole lot will be summer very soon.

We have entered our U15s team and will continue our younger age groups as development squads in the Midlands.

Technically if you join the Yorkshire League ALL your teams have to be in it. However, we have been allowed to keep our younger age groups in the Midlands playing in "non-competitive" development competitions so if, as the article suggests, the West Riding 8-11s is similar then the clubs would be able to join both.

I think the younger ages should stay as local as possible, even if the leagues merge, to help reduce the travelling.

Were the West Riding and Yorkshire Leagues originally geographically split?

Largely - West Riding were based around Huddersfield, Halifax, Keighley and Bradford with some Lancashire teams (Littleborough and I think West Craven are examples). Leeds, York, Dewsbury, Wakefield, Castleford and South Yorks were Yorkshire Juniors although some clubs would cross over if they had an argument with one of the leagues. That can't really hpapen anymore.

I assume the Lancs clubs will have to go to the North West or face significantly extra travel.

I think that's the plan.

In the 90s, there was a period where the WRL ran at U-14, U16 etc, and YL ran at U-15, U-17 etc, so we ended up switching between them due to reorganisation within the club, probably to align with the National League groupings of the time.

Greetland Under 15s are alrady members of the NWC 13-15 League.

They moved over in September after the demise of the 15s in West Riding. Geographically, they are not placed that far from what was the eastern boundary in the first place and decided that it was easier for them to move west.

Problems with the ISP (I think). Charlie apologised at the meeting and said it would be back ASAP

Littleborough and West Craven joined the NWC 8 - 12s last night along with ourselves as new clubs to the NWC 8 - 12s league.

Just checked and Hull is summer up to under 15s as well. So there's not a winter club in the country under 15s or younger. Just 16s, 17s and most 18s in Yorkshire (excluding Conference Youth League) remaining winter as all juniors outside Yorkshire are summer.

The Yorkshire Junior League have agreed to run a Yorkshire Regional Youth League from 2013. Whether there will also be a winter league I don't know.

To be more specific under 16s and 17s are having an interim season, under 18s are having one last winter season. The plan is that the under 17s will be next summer's under 18s and the winter 18s will go open age.

This doesn't discount the possibility of a winter division for die hards though I doubt it.

BARLA have staged a backlash and are setting up winter leagues in Yorkshire from Under 11s upwards so there will be a divide there. Perhaps clubs with open age in summer will have juniors in summer and those with open age in winter will have juniors in winter?
