Excellent news. I always keep an eye on Hemel, they're the closest I'll get to a home town team. Unless anyone wants to help me set up the Aylesbury Avengers...?

Funny you should mention that because I'll be working in Aylesbury through the week for the next 18 months and I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't a few more northern boys on the job that would want a game. I went down for hemels first pre season sesh last week and even though they say they were short on numbers as is normally the case at this time of year, the lads that were there were all good craic.

Google South Bucks Bulldogs to see the new club around there though looks like they're Wycombe based.

With Northampton and Hemel Hempstead in the Championship, all we need is Coventry and Bristol next and then the Championship 1 is looking like a fantastic recruitment and promotion vehicle for our game in the Midlands and the south.

Does anyone know what the rules will be for promotion and relegation between Championship and Championship 1 from 2013 onwards?

Having criticised the choice of Northampton on here, then it is only appropraite I should congratulate Hemel, a club that has showed they can do the travelling and are there for the long term

I really hope they can become one of the leading lights at this level and I share the previous posters view that if there are to be two more then bring on Bristol and Coventry.

I do understand the concerns of any team from Cumbria who end up in this division and would like to see the RFL help with travel even if say for journeys over a certain distance

We could have by my reckoning ten semi pro non heartlands teams in 2013, that really is an achievement and a challenge. Ten inlcudes Gateshead and Catalan but not Sheffield

It's supposed to still be 2 up 2 down subject to minimum criteria but not sure if it will work in practice.

Can't believe Catalan are semi pro and the game in the south of France has been going long enough that it shouldn't be described as "non-heartland".
Good to see Hemel finally making the step up.

There are loads of semi pro teams in France.

I'd suggests it's the people of east London that are really paying for the Olympics.

Thanks for that nad. Now has anybody got a contact for George Osbourne so I can claim my tax back?

Bears...Stags...

I know the sport is gay-friendly, but is Graham Norton picking the names?

I suspect you have to be appropriately minded to get such a double entendre from such monikers.

Lord knows what he would do with Love Rockets and Bucking Broncos?

For clarification there will be a press conference at Pennine Way on Tuesday 21st Feb @ 12 noon. Whether that is to dismiss or comfirm the rumour will be annouced then.
