Following on from Johns thread in the RL forum about encouraging new members. How long have you been around on TRL? I know we could go back further than anyone could remember with the newsgroups or other forums but how long have you been on specifically totalrl?

Ive been around since I was 16, needed something to do while bumming around in college classes and stumbled across the forum. Ive just turned 27 so been on TRL for approx 11 years. Generally more of a reader than a poster but have my moments.

2000. I remember coming here because a friend was ranting about a particularly narrow and daft view of a member who is still around :P

I believe my first post was a complaint about a daft marketing thing released by the RFL. You could say that of most years though!

2002/3 I think. I think I came here to talk about the Rugby League Conference but can't really remember.

I didn't say much for a very long time.

Been around since about 2002. Can drift away and back depending on work etc. And yes, I've got some Mighty Penguins merchandise to prove it!

I didn't say much for a very long time.

Those were the days.

I think I joined up in late 2002 as the Warrington 'Wolfweb' went into meltdown during the Steve Anderson/Matt Rodwell debacle season. I remember I hardly posted at all for a good 6-12 months.
Astute analysis from a Wigan fan:

Rumour going around Headingley that Wire will have to play the second half with 12 men.

It seems that they forgot to bring the half time oranges, and Solomona ate Chris Bridge instead.

Don't know why he was hungry, as he looked as though he had eaten the whole youth team before the game started.

In 1999, I started posting on John Drake's forum, which was called The Virtual Terrace. I have been posting on JD's forums ever since, along with Paley, Jonoco and Lobby Gobbler.

According to the thread on the main forum, we should be nice to all you newbies.

I started in 1999 as well on the Virtual Terrace. Was that John Drake's forum? I remember it was during the Union World Cup and a fellow by the name of Dutoni was stirring things up. From there I pretty quickly moved onto Widnes's forum, which at the time was Widnesvikings.co.uk I think.

I actually used to run the Widnes website (including forum) of Rivals.net which eventually became RLFans. I have no idea how Virtual Terrace ended up being attached to the RLFans. I'm almost certain that by that stage I was using TotalRL although I don't know how I came across it. Was it linked to the now defunct preview paper that came out on a Thursday? I do remember that I was one of the people who actually paid £10 when it was briefly a subscription site.

As with JB I was a Widnes board poster who gradually moved away to the extent that I almost never go on the Widnes forum.

I'm sure I remember posting as an undergrad, which might put my membership as starting somewhere around 2000.

Started in 1999 on the Barrow, Summer Conference and 13World forums. Seem to think that these all became part of the Rivals network. Signed up to this one in 2001. I was using a forum in 1997/8 because I remember posting on the Oxford Cavaliers one whilst at uni. The Barrow forum on here is the evolution of the original one.

This is probably the first time "Barrow" and "evolution" have been used in the same sentence.

Around 2000/2001 for me, the company I worked for when I joined went bust in 2002 so it was definatly before that as I posted many atime from the comfort of there offices - I don't think the two events are connected!

About 10 years ago I think, maybe more. I was on RLFANS first back in 2000 and also on rugbyleague.org which hosted the Eagles board then merged with this one around the time when you hsd to pay to join (or buy something from JD!)

Total RL was indeed linked to the weekend preview paper. As far as I know it was set up the season after that paper ended (ended in 2001, Total RL.com in 2002 I think). It had a lot of the preview stuff and League Talk - when it used to be more like Random League now in RLW rather than the version currently in LE - that's when I first signed up. Don't know if the board launched with the site though. I do miss Total RL the paper though, preffered it to League Express as it was a lot more fun.

I am also one of those who paid the £10 to join in that brief period. Certainly cut down on the trolls!

I can't remember either, but it's been a while. I remember detouring once a week to WHSmith at Kings Cross to buy TRL (the paper) and going online to find out what happened after it stopped appearing on the shelves.
