Ive been reading with interest this forum (and the National Conference forum**) over the past few weeks and Im hoping someone can help me with this doubt.
The RFL here:
http://www.therfl.co...-summer---rugby
states there are 419 senior teams playing summer rugby. Removing the 85 clubs from tiers 1, 2 and 3 that leaves 334 teams at Tier 4.
Does that number sound about right?
Last year there were 99 teams in the RLC (according to the tables in the L'Express yearbook) so around 235 teams have switched?
Doing a quick count up from various websites, it appears around 150 teams are still playing in winter leagues. Is that right?
Barrow League 8
Hull League 18
NW Counties 11
Pennine 93
Yorkshire 20
Im aware that these figures refer to teams, not clubs.
Thanks for your help
** As an aside, is there a need for two separate forums (fora) for NCL and community RL? Honest question to regular users

A few more of the teams in the 3 Yorkshire Leagues you've mentioned are switching (I don't know how many just yet) and I expect the Barrow League to move sooner rather than later (probably for 2013). But doesn't quite look right.
I make it:
NW: 93
Cumberland:20
Midlands: 25
North East:16
South West: 12
Yorkshire: at least 39 probably 40-45
London/East/South East: 33
Wales: not sure about 10
Scotland: not sure about 10
Looks to be about 260. 280 if you include Ireland.
Could have been a large surge of teams switching from Yorkshire last minute but doubt it would be 50 teams more likely 5.
Could be they're including under 18s?

Are you saying that there will only be between 40 and 45 teams left playing in the winter?A few more of the teams in the 3 Yorkshire Leagues you've mentioned are switching (I don't know how many just yet) and I expect the Barrow League to move sooner rather than later (probably for 2013). Carlsberg don't do Soldiers, but if they did, they would probably be Brits.<div align='center'></div>

Yes. When I counted the Tier 4 clubs that way, I ended up around 280 too. Perhaps they are counting reserve or junior teams of SL & Champ. clubs, but I understood it was open-age teams.
Thanks for your help

Championship under 23: 6
Under 20 Academy: 13
Under 18 Academy: 16
Conference Youth League: 18
North West Youth League: 14
London Youth League: 8
Midlands Under 18: 6
There's another 81 which seems to mean 253 open age obviously missing out Ireland but probably also missing late entrants

Well, I don't think that's it, because in the link I posted there's this:
From March 2012 1,586 teams will be playing in a summer-based season, a total which represents 86 per cent of all players and 91 per cent of all youth and junior teams.
419 senior teams and 1,167 youth and junior teams are involved in this structure.
which is what I was basing my initial calculations on.

I think under 18s is classed as senior by Sport England.
If that's not it then it's a plain lie which I find hard to believe.

Yes.
Another thought that occurred to me was when I counted 99 RLC clubs from last summer's table, there would be a number of new faces, and perhaps 2nd teams who've been playing friendlies or in a merit league who are being counted. IF the RLC (as was) is bringing say 140-150 teams to the table and say 180 (ex) BARLA teams switched, perhaps it all adds up?
Pure speculation on my part.

There's definitely not that many unless 50 Yorkshire clubs extra have decided to switch since the end of January when only 24 had then so would need to have tripled.Yes.

Aye. Thanks for your help mate anyway. I do like it when the numbers add up, but perhaps in this case we'll have to wait until all the different Tier 4s kick off before we can work out who's playing where. IMO the best source of info during these months of flux has been yourself on these boards.

Yeah I just think if there'd been a landslide to summer in Yorkshire we'd here whinging somewhere. Having said that Lancashire had one and Yorkshire's been very secretive. I did know who was in Yorkshire but there's been some late additions to the league. Pretty much anywhere else in England I know about though not 100% on SW.Aye. Thanks for your help mate anyway. Looks like Cas Lock Lane A and Cas Panthers A have pulled out but otherwise looks like a lot of winter clubs are trying summer before they decide.
Are they going with a merit league still? Last I heard it only had 4 teams? None of whom are listed above.
Surprised 14 games is enough. Would have thought a full season needed 18 unless there's another cup.
