The Beau Scott signing has again opened the debate for a draft system.
Storm leaders back NRL draft calls

My personal view - The draft isn't perfect but it has to be better than the madness we have now & the disruption it causes.

That article doesn't seem to explain what a proposed draft system would entail.

While I don't really have a problem with players announcing forthcoming moves to other clubs. At least that way everything is out in the open.
I can see a transfer window system, as in soccer here, being brought in if there are enough people in the game who believe a change is needed.
I don't think this is what a draft scheme sounds like though.
A draft system seems to suggest players being shared out in a picking system at a specified time or times. This I would be against.
Surely this isn't what is being suggested is it?
If it is I'd be interested to here the case put for it.
So before I vote in the poll I'd like to know what exactly the proposal is.

I think they're looking at the AFL model as a starting point & modifying it to suit the NRL ?

Right so it is a way of drafting young players into clubs via a picking system where clubs finishing at the bottom of the ladder get to pick in front of higher finishing clubs.
Sounds from that article as if it is another successful opportunity to get TV coverage - making it an event in itself.
I can see that it would be an attractive proposition to the media and the money men in the game.

It's not something I have experience of here in our major sports.
My instincts are to be against it. Talent spotting and youth development is an important part of our game.
I believe people who do more of it should be rewarded.
Maybe it's just me being conservative definately with a small c.

I would like to see a draft system where clubs name by september 1st the 13 first grade and 13 under 20 players they will keep for next. Thst should see clubs keeping the best youngsters and stars. But then the bottom club then gets first pick of the best squad players. No system is perfect but I do believe somethinh needs to change. Gallop as ever just seems to be ignoring a problem and making excuses
