Quite a good article. With the Licencing culture / branding of the NRL it always surprises me that they don't have this already in place!! A sure $$$ maker for them.
NRL - should they move to squad numbers ?

I firmly support playing jerseys with the player's name and squad number.
As a supporter of a club in the British Championship RL I regarded this feature as being both professional and a practical move. This season the Championship RL returned to just positional numbers, this presumably to save clubs money.
It doesn't. You possibly need more playing shirts as you can have different players of very different sizing playing in a position during a season.
Above that it's an opportunity to have a player's shirt presentation evening for players that fans just love.
I believe it's a professional and worthwhile step forward and see the loss of it for my Championship team as a huge step backwards.

Im surprised theyve not done it already, from a marketing point of view it would surely generate more money for the clubs. Maybe just having seen it in SL and football for so many years it seems odd that its not something theyve adopted before!

Well, I hope they don't bring them in. Nowt wrong with 1 - 17. If nothing else, it should aid spectators ability to tell which players are suppposed to be playing in which position - particularly so for newcomers to the sport.
