I've just been informed that the Challenge Cup game with East Hull has been switched to Spotland.

Pugwash.

This switching venues affects what little credibility the competition has left. If clubs are not capable of hosting a home tie they should not be allowed entry into the competition (whoever that club might be).

At a guess (and it is only a guess) I'd reckon that we've paid for the use of Spotland for the South Wales game and can't get the money back.

Rather than let the money go to waste I’ll guess that we put it to East Hull that Spotland is used and split the gate.

It would claw back some of the money already paid to the stadium company, give the lads and fans from East Hull a day out and ensure more Hornet fans get to the game.

Like I say tho’ just a guess.

If you look back some years ago when there was only two amateur clubs in the Challenge Cup, they either played the games at their nearest pro. club or they reversed the tie.

No change there then?

No problem moving venue top local professional club if there is insufficient capacity at their own ground. They still retain home advantage of a sort. But I expect you would be able to fit the crowd likely to show for this game in a couple of large KC communications phone boxes.

So, how did we play today, did we we field a strong side and any pointers for the battles ahead?

On the basis of the result/stats, it would appear that we did enough but that our defence still needs some attention.

Easts were a decent side and led for a while but Hornets were never in any danger of losing, just a little slower off the blocks. Hornets soon got in front and scored 4 tries very quickly indeed. Middlehurst completed his second Hat-Trick of the season and Baines kicked them from all over the gaff.

Easts scored early and late in the second half and inbetween Roper and Houghie opened them up almost at will. The scoreline was about right and the ovation Easts got at the end was well deserved. They didn't try to spoil they were willing to try their tricks and had a very good kicking game.

Bloomfield is looking very fit after his jaunt to the land of Aus. I just hope we can get draw a good S.L. team at home and make a few bob for the spanking we'll no doubt get!

Pugwash.
