I never fail to be impressed by the play of Billy Slater and each week his performance gets better and better. He scores tries that others wouldn't even dream of scoring. His partnership with Cooper Cronk and Cameron Smith is unbelievable.
In over 60 years of watching rugby league I have to say that I have never seen a full-back quite like him. I could watch him all day and every day. Brilliant.

I remember when .............................
"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

Slater is a freak and reads the game so well. His athletic ability added to his reading of the game and his willingness to do the impossible and chase a seemingly no chance opportunity make him miles in front of the rest. I even put him in front of Lockyer as the best ever fullback I have ever seen. Sure he makes mistakes but he makes up for it with his attitude. Having spoken to him he is quiet and not the arrogant person people say he is. He also never sees himself as perfect and knows he has to keep working and pushing his game. Great player and top bloke

Not bad for a track work jockey from InnisfailHis partnership with Cooper Cronk and Cameron Smith is unbelievable.
It's been a partnership 12 years & with the team dynamic just a tad off so far + bellyache's switch to the 'just complete your sets' outlook,it's what's keeping Storm in front.
You have to wonder what will happen when the team dynamic does kick in

Great talent. A shame that he's also one of the grubbiest players in the game. If they ever erect a statue in his honour it should feature a giant nose with a set of elbows and knees.

You can't please everybody. Fair enough.
When Billy was over here previously for the World Club Challenge the squad trained jointly with Hull FC on our Featherstone Rovers pitch. I got chance to speak to Billy and the other lads who were very approachable.
He spent time afterwards signing autographs.

Another record for Billy after another 5 star show. First player to score 2 tries in 4 consecutive games. He also set up a couple. Billy you are a freak!

Billy has been playing at stellar level while at the same time having a foot complaint!
He's a case of tendinitis (shouldn't that really be tendonitis???).
It's an inflammation of a tendon. If not treated it could lead to a stress fracture.
So under medical advice Billy has donned a moon boot for the week and is training only lightly.
Still down to play at the weekend. Maybe he'll only score one try not his usual pair!

or similar!
