Should referees be allocated to games involving a club they have formerly played for?

Why not ?

Hi there been waiting for a post on here to get my attention and this has certainly done that!! I have dipped my toe into the reffing game since getting too old and injured - my debut game was a double header with my old club and a pretty close rival and I can confirm that no game since had my attention or concentration like reffing my club.

Any decisions and conduct from an official are given on the basis of what he/she sees at the time and the teams involved have no bearing on that.

The reason i think that they should not is because any decision that goes against the other club this could be seen to be cheating which only winds up the players of that club and in my opinion gives his former club a advantage due to the players getting frustrated. It is human nature to blame the referee and when the referee is a former player of a club it puts ever decision he makes under the spotlight. this can also work the other way should the referee having leaved the club under a cloud.

Not idea's. Facts from my own experiences has both a former player and club official.

What rubbish!

Trust a bloke's integrity until you have reason and evidence to show he does not deserve it!

I saw a great game between Eccles and Rochdale Mayfield on Saturday and over 80 minutes a draw was probably a fair result. I do try really hard not to comment on referees unless I can be positive but we had a change to the advertised referee this week and I am sure he did not want to be there for some reason. He phoned the club from the Trafford Centre, where he was with his girl friend, to ask directions because he was lost. We were just about to lock up the club because the teams were out ready to kick off at 2.30 when somebody heard voices in the changing room and sure enough it was the referee and his touch judges, so they strolled to the pitch and we kicked off 5 minutes late. After the game he handed in the team sheet and the results were justy about legible through his scribble. There had been no sendings off or sin bins so he put a line through those columns but in his hurry to get away he also struck throw the spaces where I am supposed to write the names of the man of the matches. None of these things would usually move me to complain on this forum but the fact that Eccles suffered a 3-13 penalty count in a game that was played in great spirit with not one "dirty" incident was the final straw!

Many moons ago we where playing against Westgate and one of there players was down injured in our in goal area receiving treatment, Westgate kicked ahead from the halfway line and as our full-back collected the ball he was tackled from behind by the injured player, consequently our full-back dropped the ball which a chasing Westgate player picked up and dived over only for the Ref to award them a try, not long afterwards the referee became a member of Westgates committee.

I personally dont like referees from the home teams area.

I have witnessed referees stitching up the home side to show impartiality.
