I doubt that this formed part of their bid for a franchise last summer?!?!?! This just shows that the whole franchise idea is nothing but a fix and a fiasco.
The likes of Halifax, Leigh and Featherstone must be livid.

If the management and shareholders had any shred of integrity they'd sell 10,000 shares at £100 pounds each to the fans and donate the money raised to the club to pay the debts instead of asking the fans to clear the debt themselves. At least the fans would be getting some thing for their money (instead of just being shafted)
I wonder if my friends and neighbours would clear my debts for me?

Spot on PD, I've actually seen a piece where they say the players will not be having their contracts reduced or be asked to put their hands in their pockets, absolutely wonderful!
This must all have been on the horizon last season and they just swept it under the carpet in order to get their franchise renewed!
Float the club and cut the playing staff to survive. Can you imagine if you had a mortgage and arrears were getting high and you refused to get rid of your Mercedes and your cleaning staff? You'd soon be told what was what.
Yet again the fans get shafted.

I have been screaming out for years that the time is NOW for all sides outside of sl to break away and create our own Fair For All Rugby League.
This would mean we organise, our own promotion and relegation sysems, own winnable competitions, fair fees for young players, etc, etc, etc, in a nutshell a fair
level playing feild, not the old boys system that now exists that is "let's look after ourselves and stuff the rest."
Sadly, it won't happen and rugby league will surely die because of the unfairness imposed upon rl by the powers that be and the fear that breaking away wouldn't work
something those great men didn't consider when they broke away from union all those years ago.

I too have been in favour of dropping S.L. and going it alone but there are the obvious problems of funding. The R.F.L. does at least partially fund us and that would have to be found first. Then we might have clubs that still fancy their chances of getting into the S.L. club they might not agree to join up.
My idea would be to go partially along the line of splitting and just refuse to play in the Challenge Cup. Championship clubs have no chance of winning the Cup and little chance of getting money from fixtures as the S.L. fans will not support these matches in great numbers.
Insist on having autonomy over our league and make the competitions we play in something we can get value out of. Change the league make up to reduce travelling expenses. Split into West and East Conferences to allow everyone fixtures with the better clubs to make at least a few decent crowds every season. At the end of the season they could have a playoff system that would then pit the leading 2-4 Conference winners to compete for the overall Championship. The Northern Rail Cup could be a straight knockout so the poorer clubs don't have to play four matches before they are kicked out of the competition.
We could even try to get a Championship Review programme after the Super League Show as the football clubs have after M.O.T.D., just half an hour, surely not too much to ask?
That said I doubt it will ever happen as we are too likely to put up with our lot and grin and bare it!
