Keith,
Is there anychance of the agreement will be signed or is it just a massive ego trip for some local councillors in copeland at the expense of the tax payers.
Yes it will be signed monte, when CISWO think that the price is right for what they are giving away re. charity land for the community. And yes, it has been a massive ego trip for more than councillors at Copeland. The Chief Executive was saying about the World Cup that it would bring many tourists to the area who all would require bed and breakfast, etc, etc, and that the games would be seen around the world!!!! Maybe highlights of Scotland v Italy or Tonga could get shown but I cannot see any "live" broadcasts of those matches. No matches involving smaller countries were shown live at the last World Cup in Oz. Scotland matches in Scotland can't attract any more than local clubs attract (they gat around 1200, I think) so how many will be paying bed and breakfast and ticket prices here?
The stadium was all to do with SL and the World Cup came along at the right time to boost their argument, as shown by todays N & S article.
"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

I can see the logic in taking a game to Whitehaven, and let's be honest, if we can't fill a 3,000 capacity stadium for 2 matches then there rugby league is in worse shape locally than I thought.

Keith they are not giving anything away, they still own the land all they are doing is allowing access down the current road which will be up graded. It's happening so get over it .Very bitter indeed I'm sure if it was workington getting a ground under the same situation you would be full of praise .Yes it will be signed monte, when CISWO think that the price is right for what they are giving away re. charity land for the community. Get over what? He was asked a question, he gave a straight answer. In what way is that bitter? I think your low IQ is making you read things that simply arent there.Keith they are not giving anything away, they still own the land all they are doing is allowing access down the current road which will be up graded. It's happening so get over it .Very bitter indeed I'm sure if it was workington getting a ground under the same situation you would be full of praise .

You must get rid of that chip on your shoulder marra, he answered the question that was asked by an Haven fan. There was no bitterness in his reply but I would imagine Keith, myself and other Townies find it amazing that copeland council keep bending over backwards to accomodate a club that shafted the rate paying public. It's no secret that most of us would love a new stadium, any bitterness is with Allerdale who let the sporting public of Workington down big style.Keith they are not giving anything away, they still own the land all they are doing is allowing access down the current road which will be up graded. It's happening so get over it .Very bitter indeed I'm sure if it was workington getting a ground under the same situation you would be full of praise .

Thanks for the answer Keith,
If you can guess the crowd figures for next years world cup games at the Elaine Woodburn Tim Knowles Memorial ground can you have at giving this week's euro lottery numbers.

Let's be honest, if Allerdale has someone who was willing to fund the building of a stadium they would also be bending over backwards to work with the funder, unfortunately we don't have that option and I doubt that Copeland are bringing much money to the table anyway, as most, if not all of the funding comes from outside sources.
Copeland Council have obviously seen the benefits a community stadium can bring to the town and have pulled out all the stops to make it happen. Allerdale on the other hand do not see the benefits and seem to view any such development as a financial millstone which we have seen happen at other similar stadiums up and down the country.
My only question would be whether the town of Whitehaven is big enough for two community stadiums, as they already have the athletics stadium which has had a lot on money invested into it over the years?

I think they get a little upset by reasoned arguments because their dad is bigger than oursGet over what? He was asked a question, he gave a straight answer. In what way is that bitter? I think your low IQ is making you read things that simply arent there.
"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction."

"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."

No think you will find it was some one else had a go at him for that so like I said at least try to get your facts right
It was another spineless chump, with more than one user name, billybonzo or zomething, who had a go at me on the Haven forum but he couldn't work it out that I was talking about what Paul Walker, CEO of Copeland BC actually said not an Haven director.
