Anyone know what this is about?
Astute analysis from a Wigan fan:
Rumour going around Headingley that Wire will have to play the second half with 12 men.
It seems that they forgot to bring the half time oranges, and Solomona ate Chris Bridge instead.
Don't know why he was hungry, as he looked as though he had eaten the whole youth team before the game started.

Wellens got a 1 match ban for a 'dangerous' tackle on Briers. As I remember it, the tackle had already been completed and the two were sort of mauling around on the floor. Wellens had Briers round the stomach and lifted him. The lift, combined with Briers acting up by digging his heels in and pushing himself upwards, resulted in Briers being in a dangerous position. I don't recall him being driven into the ground and nothing was made of it at the time.
Wellens/Saints appealed the ban. Briers wrote a letter in support of Wellens' appeal, stating that there was nothing malicious/dangerous about the incident. In spite of this, and almost 15 years with an unblemished disciplinary record (Btw, his mouthing off/arm waving is a different matter!) they upheld the ban. Given the number of warning letters that have been sent out over the years for players with season tickets at Red Hall I was genuinely shocked he even got a ban, and even moreso when it was upheld on appeal.

Thanks, it's a lot easier when people write in sentences.
I agree with you, I was surprised Wellens got anything more than a word in his ear until I remembered you were playing Wigan in your next game. It was fairly innocuous. Still, a ban for acting contrary to the spirit of the game with all the whingeing he does wouldn't have gone amiss.
I have no problem with Briers intervening, he has every right although the panel, equally, have the right not to listen to him if they believe the tackle was dangerous.

Quite impressive that Briers (labelled regularly as a cheat) can also be mocked for being a sportsman. He certainly is multi-skilled!
"I don't want to insult the Australians (but) I am like, 'These guys are some damn idiots'. Nobody plays football without pads every week for three, four or five months and don't make any money. At least in the NFL, you are going to kill yourself and . . . you get to be a millionaire after it's over."

One Wigan-hating Scouser helps another Wigan-hating Scouser to try and avoid the consequences of a little local difficulty before Scousers have a tough game against Wigan - simples!!
Let's face it, if both of them had been able to CALM DOWN!!!, then there wouldn't have been a problem in the first place.
Personally, I think that Briers should be up in front of the beak for trying to undermine the authority of the RFL's disciplinary procedures, he certainly would not have made this charitable gesture had the incident happened when he was playing against against any other club, unless of course, their next game was against Wigan.
