great defensive display today,a few mistakes in attack but always to good for them. A cracking derby match that had it all.Well done to all the team and coaching staff.
Success does not consists in never making blunders, but in never making the same one the second time.

Another excellent display from the Hornets.

Mention must be made of the early exit of Roden and the question begs to be asked, was he fit or rushed back? I think Hornets bossed pretty much 75% of the game and when Oldham realised they couldn't beat us at rugby they started fighting, and lost the fight as well!

It's a bit rich Biffos coming on here and commenting on Middlehurst's foul at Wrexham when their own hug chased a man off the field when the hooter had gone to shove him into the advertising hoardings. The hooter had gone and the player was just celebrating by running the ball out of play no chance of winning!I thought the officials had a pretty good match with decisions made quickly but I must say one Hornets toch kick in the second half appeared to land on the line but was flagged as a legal touch kick!

Oldham are still top thanks to the loser's point, sorry Bonus Point, but four tries to two says it all and Oldham held scoreless in the second half.

No doubt the story will continue at Whitebank later in the season.

Well done Nets - more's the pity about missing a bonus point at Haven and preventing Oldham's point. Who was on kicking duty today? Baines seemed to be an accurate kicker.
Any idea of the attendance? Things are shaping up for a very tight fight for the top four - our next two will be very crucial.

Over 1,000 in attendance and Baines was kicking initially, missed three toughies and one sitter. Houghy took the penalty to make it 18-10.

A gritty performance by all the lads, but we should have been out of sight by half time with a bit more nous. However keeping them scoreless in the second half was a big plus point. The only Roughyed to stand out for me was Dallimore who was like a pearl among a pile of costume jewels.
Well done lads! :D

Yes,well done to the lads, keeping the opposition pointless in the second half is massive as it shows they played the full eighty minutes,so many games are won or lost in the final five. The silence from All Roughyed is indeed deafening.

Fair play to Hornets on your defence, it was better than ours.
The first try from hornets was from a forward pass of 2 yards, right in front of the Ref and the linesman. How they missed that is beyond me. we were right in line with it.
Thought the way the Ref and linesman dealt with the Thommo incident was pathetic. How could the linesman not know who the Rochdale players was.

Anyway, congrats on your win, we'll see you at the Whitebank to put things straight. You'll need at least one win up in Cumbria this year to be in the running for a top 4 spot, and that will be hard.

Yeah Dave, pretty quiet on here, but the excuses on their own board really have me cracking up! From blaming the ball boys for being slow to give Oldham the ball to the usual ref and touchies being the cause, one saying they were CHEATED by the officials, although I agree they were pretty poor, but for BOTH sides with some very late and some very obscure calls at times. Then one of our tries coming "from a pass that was a yard forward"!
Only 'Ex-scrumhalf' and TBozz giving a reasonable take on their performance and giving Hornets any credit at all whereas the general concensus of their contributors say Hornets are rubbish and our only hope is that the opposition play as ###### as they did yesterday! Usual sour grapes when they're turned over! No mention of the resolute defence that kept them out for the whole second half and most of the first.
TBozz's match report was pretty fair although from a Roughyeds point-of-view, but when he writes "The second half started like the first, end to end dtuff. But Oldham appeared to stand back, as Hornets attacked up the gradient." GRADIENT? the only gradient at Spotland is in the stands! I think they're that used to relying on the 'slope' at Whitebank to help them out which is in my opinion worth 10/12 points if they win the toss when playing there that they think a ski slope is the norm at every other ground!
They're finding it hard to swallow all the pre-match predictions of 'smashing' Hornets with some fanciful, but delusional forecasting.

To be frank we were clueless. Bragging rights go to you and yes sour grapes to us. Where would we be without either . Your defence was certainly resolute and if Baines had had is kicking boots on then you would have been miles ahead. However those misses gave us hope when there should have been none. With regards to the officials, as I said on our forum, they were terrible for both sides. In fact they lost control and lost the respect of both sets of players and fans. The best team did win, no question, but with a man down for ten minutes and terrible tactics on our part you should have denied us the bonus point. If you had then we would be fifth and you third or fourth. I'm sure stankevicz won't be too happy with that. I really hope both of us go up this year so we can continue the tradition of bragging rights and sour grapes.
Welldone on the win and heres to the return leg at ours.

Well said that man !!!!!!!! I to hope we both go up, Good friday wouldn't be the same without our derby, win or lose.I really don't fancy another three trips to Cumbria next season. But as I said earlier, you'll need to beat at least one of the cumbrian sides up there this season to be in with a shout for top 4.
Only two things I'm annoyed about yesterday,(along with the loss ),
1st was the missed forward pass on your first try, and 2nd was the farce with Thommo's sin bin. Hornets were the better side in defence, and we gave you far to much room in the first half. Doesn't bear thinking about what would have happened if Miles hadn't got across and nailed your player on that break.
I dont think there is any need to panic, it's 4 out of 18, and no team will go through this season without at least a couple of losses.See you at the whitebank June 24th. Have a good season!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I had no problem with the officials, I think they could have been more forceful on the fouls which caused the brawl late on and the sin bin puzzled me as well but by and large I would have given most of the penalties that the referee gave for both sides.

It's too easy to start ref-baiting when things don't go for you but last week at Wrexham some Hornets fans were yelling for knock-on after a charge down. No doubt they went home still complaining about A BLIND REFEREE!

The Golden Rule is; make sure you know the rules before you tell someone else they're wrong!

We lost because we were beaten by the better side on the day and we did not deserve to win. Hornets defence was first class especially defending your own line. We should have gone for goal three times in kickable positions which might have changed the game at crutial times.

The officials, especially the touch judges, who gave the ref no help at all were poor for both sides. If the touch judges are not up to scratch or make the wrong decisions it makes the ref look poor.

I dont care who the other two teams are that go up as long as both of us go up.

All around me was the spontaneous call, "number fifteen".

Two holding, whist one hitting the helplessly available head repeatedly.

It turns out Adam Bowman is the name of the apparently innocent perpetrator.

I only hope the advertising boards didn't suffer any damage.

Did I forget to mention the name Adam Bowman.

Adam Bowman.

I'm getting increasingly forgetful.

Just in case I forgot let me remind you.
