With the B&D league nearly finished for another season, I think a question most players are asking is what is the format going to be next season?

Is it going to carry on as is in the winter?
Or a short season Aug-Nov 2012 then switching to summer in 2013?

I think for the good of the game then the A team league needs to be aligned with the first team season, it's would be very difficult for a first team to play in the summer and an A team play in the winter.

This season IMO hasn't been on a level playing field with Askam, Millom and Ulverston first teams not playing for approx 3 months of the A team season which has meant they could field their full A team each week (and a bit more in some cases)............................and in Askam's case hardly fulfilling an A team fixture when their first team are playing

I think an email went out to the clubs asking what they wanted to do. Milloms preference was for a short interim season starting in Sept, similar to how the NCL did it last season, then moving to Summer in 2013. No idea what other clubs think but this would seem a pretty sensible idea, from having a taste of it this year I can't imagine trying to run two teams in separate seasons being any good for a club in the long term.

I don't believe that any decision has been made yet but fully agree that it needs to happen ASAP, I think the next B&D league meeting in on the Monday 11th June so maybe something will come out of that.

Like I have said in an early post the A team league needs to be aligned with the first teams.

There was a meeting but nothing was decided. The decision will be made nearer the start of the season so clubs can fully gauge how the switch to summer has gone for them. The majority of clubs want summer so I can only see it going 1 way at the moment.

Why do they need to wait? are they expecting the clubs to all switch back, this wont happen and how can they fully gauge after only one season it will take a few years. They should sort it now so lads know.

They should start an A team Competition from July and run it through till the end of September. Its counter productive having half interim seasons, look at this years North west Mens league, theres no doubt once everyone has there 3 months off during the winter that next season will be a much stronger competition, as all the players will be set for it.
The B&D should use the next 3 months to cut its teeth for next season. Why go half arsed.

One bad season and a club can be ruined.

Why would you want your first team and juniors in summer but reserves in winter?

Fed up of saying it but most teams that have gone summer are reporting bar takings down, so if a club (Not sure how many in Barrow run two teams and i'm not going to look it up) ran 12 months that means the tills are ticking over for 12 months = revenue

Just for you Bowes, Your flagship RLCN side Underbank are also reporting a massive loss in bar takings already and if this continues the payments to players stop and that means one thing.

If Underbank are losing revenue as well doesn't that suggest it's this summer that's a problem not summer in general?

Every Barrow club runs reserves. A reserve team isn't much good if they play a different season to your first team.

Why it would mean more players to cover holidays, weddings etc, the only periods where they may be short is when the seasons overlap.

It would mean first team players start to double up and the reserves drift away leaving no team when the first team are playing. Reserves aren't exactly fulfilling their function if they're not at the same time as the first team anyway

Where did you get the post that you would need more players and what are you saying that clubs only need to run one team all year except for when the seasons overlap. I thought the idea of the second team was to provide cover for the first team and give the lads who dont make the first team a game or arnt you bothered about these lads except for when the season overlaps. What happens to the lads who train but only cover for injurys in the first team are they expected to train for the full 12 months at least if both teams play at the same time their getting games every week and then have a break. The sooner we change the better, If theres weddings etc the seconds can normally rearange.

You would only have two short periods between the seasons wher you didn't have both teams playing, the point I'm making is it not better to have the tills in the club ticking over all year than having a 2 to 3 month period being idel

Just an observation guys but Roose and Barrow Island are relying on a number of Union Lads who will return to Hawcoat Park and Furness at the end of August.
will those teams manage to fulfill fixtures?
Have the A teamers been given a chance? are they not interested or are the unoion lads just covering injuries and holidays?
