South Wales Scorpions have released Jamie Rooney and Joe McKenna from their contracts with immediate affect.
Both players were in the team for the Welsh derby game that took place on Monday, which North Wales Crusaders won 34-22 against the Scorpions.
The club say both players were released by mutual consent.
Rooney joined the club from French side Limoux Grizzlies where he played half a season during seasons 2011-12. Current Scorpions coach Dave Clark brought him to Barrow Raiders in 2009 where he spent another two seasons there before moving to France.
McKenna signed for the Scorpions at the end of 2011 from Workington Town. He joined Barrow Raiders Academy aged 19 and moved to Workington Town in 2010 where he was also a Community Development Officer.
The club say “The Scorpions would like to wish them both the best of luck in their future careers.”

Might be worth a shot, a bit of a stop gap signing for this season.

Check out the Ex player thread on the Barrow forum. Nothing proven and no concrete evidence but it might affect the club's decision and the opinion of the fans if the rumours turn out to be correct.
Not sure he would add much except experience to your squad, probably better off with a keen youngster wanting to make a name for himself

True but he's not as young as he once was and hasn't dominated games in the last couple of years. He would do a job for you but I believe there are young lads out there who would be more committed and have something to proveProven at this level

No Ta.
Think we'll be sticking with what we have at the mo, but if we do need a half back through injury or whatever, Ben Dean at Hunslet Old Boys is reet useful ( think young Andy Gregory )

Baggage has never stopped Knights signing anyone before. An RFL ban might though, just have to wait n see what happens once the rumour mill spins itself into spewing the truthNot or me I'm afraid , know too many people who know him , lot of baggage & problems !

Whitehaven have confirmed the signing of former England international Jamie Rooney.
Rooney left South Wales Scorpions earlier this month by mutual consent.
Rooney was a star player for Wakefield before his heart stopped suddenly during routine knee surgery. His heart stopped for 30 seconds, and has since left Super League for Championship standard rugby league.
Whitehaven coach Don Gailer said: “I know what he'll bring to our side regarding performance and ability and his attributes as a player. His communication and direction skills, experience and his superb kicking game are something that Whitehaven are desperate of really. He fills a lot of vacancies that we have in our side.
“He'll be a really important player for Whitehaven in where we finish this year. He fills a key position in being a half-back which will strengthen that area. I can see a few good combinations going on with our two experienced hookers, and also with Carl Rudd. We have four really good pivots there who will ask questions of sides that we're playing this year.”
