According to the SMH

Rugby League is guaranteed a $1.2 billion broadcasting deal, with monopoly pay-TV network Fox Sports declaring it won't be beaten for the five-year rights.

Fox Sports' new boss, Patrick Delany, has allayed fears of NRL club bosses his sports production company is complacent about the rights, saying for the first time the company will pay a just, competitive price to televise the code.

$1million+ is widely talked about.
The current deal is $500m (over 5 years) so that would be a huge step up if it happened.
The ARL's fall back position mentioned at the end -selling a smaller time period of games if the big figure isn't offered makes sense.
Whatever the politics and manoeuvring don't sell the game cheap. The ARL Commission has to come up with a massive deal if it is to start off in the right way.

The current rights holders have up til 7th May to lodge their bid ie channel 9 and Foxsports. Then the other FTA Tv stations 7 and 10 .
The code's head honchos(Gallop/Grant et al) are no doubt counting on a $1bn deal, but wont openly say so.
The big worry ATM,ch9 is deeply into debt and held together by a bunch of large financial institions,ch10 is not rating well ,but has backers with deep pockets in cluding Lachlan Murdoch and Gina Reinhardt(one of if not, the world's wealthiest women-owns half of West Australia's iron ore wealth ).ch7 has cash to splash, but had a huge drop in profit just announced. The Tv advertising market is experiencing lean times.

All that being said c9 needs rugby league desperately ,ditto ch10,and ch7 wants State of origin.Foxsports have the subscription base,to underpin their bids.
All eyes will be on the Commission to secure the $1bn deal.If they secure this, watch the game skyrocket at grassroots and even the international side will benefit.
Rugby league :If it was art, it would be a Monet.
