Barrow hell bent on revenge for their league defeat at the hands of Oldham, predominantly dominated the first half. For the first 15 minutes defence was the order of the day, with Clarky in Oldham colours outstanding as he put in numerous big hits. Barrow force Oldham to make make two drop outs up the hill. More pressure to be absorbed as Holt belts the ball 60m downfield and Oldham concede a penalty for crossing as the ball is gathered and an attempted attack is made. Barrow throw everything at the Oldham defence and a deft chip by Holt sees the ball gathered by Nixon to score wide out on the left. Holt addresses the ball and all eyes watch as the ball bounces off the inside of the right post and fall behind the cross bar. 0 - 6. This is surely Barrow's day!!!!!!!!!

Oldham are made to graft up the slope, but have difficulty in converting pressure into points due to excellent defence and again a lack of desire to take the easy points as Barrow offer no fewer than 3 easily kickable penalties. Holt was controlling the game behind a decent pack of forwards and regularly kicked on 3, pinning Oldham's attack in our own half. Andy Ballard in fluorescent boots, made a couple of decisive runs, the second of which followed a gang tackle by Oldham. Quick play the ball and off he goes with the excellent Harrison in support as he scores a well worked try. Holt calmly strokes the ball between the "H's" and Barrow lead by 12 points after 29minutes.

More pressure from Oldham now, with more penal;ties conceded by Barrow. Frustration for Oldham as each run of the ball was impeded by excellent defence by the Raiders and the Roughyeds were continually kept at bay. To rub salt into the wounds, Barrow receive a penalty in front of the posts and extend the lead to 14 points.

Robbo, Lucas, Greenwood and Elli put Barrow under pressure. Will the defence break? Whitty's chip is easily gatherd and Barrow attack again. Poor discipline by Barrow is becoming a feature of the game. Oldham have ball back and knock on on 2. Oldham again pinned back in our half. Oldham attack up the slope with up the jumper rugby. Not pretty, but sustained pressure now makes cracks in the defence visible as Elli is held short. Dally weaves his magic, and on the second attempt, makes the most of his unpredictable run and off loads the ball into the eager arms of young Thommo as he bursts through for the Roughyeds first try. What a good lad this Thommo is!! Dally turns from the ball as it sails through the posts and the hooter sounds the end to a very tough half. Roughyeds 6 - Raiders 14.

Second half begins, and Oldham score and game on!! Barrow score and daylight bewteen the two sides. Tony Benson's half time chat must have worked wonders as the Roughyeds overcame a 14 point deficit to score 26 unanswered points based on a virtually mistake free half concedeing only one penalty on the way. How timely was the score on the stroke of half time?

Playing downhill, Oldham's game gained momentum and it was Barrows turn to feel the heat and be forced to make the hard metres up the hill. Terrific Oldham pressure force two drop outs. A further penalty to Oldham in front of the posts. DId Oldham sense fatigue in the opposition defence? Opting to run, and following excellent work by Clough and Thommo we see Nooney in the right channel score a well deserved try for his efforts during the afternoon. Dally just wide with the score now 10 - 14. Game on as Oldham sense the tide has definitely turned.

Oldham put Barrow under the cosh, as Lucas, Dally, Nooney, Syron, Valu and Elli punch holes in the defensive wall. Drop out 3 by Barrow, more heat, more pressure. Another drop out!! Could Barrow hold out? Whitty attacks, Dogger chips and we are back to 6 tackles again. Nooney sees opening right and attacks. Dally weves his magic again and Foggy is on hand to finish off another well worked try. 14 - 14 and Dally adds the 2. 16 - 14 and in front for the first time as we start the last quarter.

Oldhaam's fitness shows as they continue to squeeze the Barrow defence. Whitty teases the defence, offers the ball, hits the gap 60m out and Miles Greenwood is on his shoulder. With only a defender to beat, Whitty times the pass and Greenwood has a clear sprint for the line. Superb try!!! Dally adds 2 and the score is 22 - 14.

With just 10 minutes remaining, we know that Barrow will not lie down. But chasing the game they are forced time and time again into further errors and indiscipline. Two penalties in front of the posts are now taken by Dally and the game is put to bed with the final score of 26 - 14.

The score on the half time hooter and an excellent second half display of discipline and good support play ensured that Oldham are included in the bag for the next round draw. Well done to Tony B and all of the lads. Good to see Valu back in action as he and Boultsy also took it in turns to punch holes in the defence.

Hi TBozz

Couldn't make the game today so was really looking forward to your report.

Looks like a great second half and, in doing so, we put the Rochdale game behind us.

Thought the 2nd half was one of the best I've seen for a long time.
We seemed to be camped in their half for most of the 2nd half constantly getting repeat sets.
I'd like to see the stats because we made very few errors and must have had double their posession.
Thought Nooney had a great game.
On top of that, it was great to see the young guns from last years Reserves keeping their excellent form...Dally, Tommo and Foggy.
Big game at London next week and will be very tough.....3 points from there will be very welcome

Oldhamer, I can only remember 1 dropped ball in the 2nd half from us when Dally forced a pass that wasn't really on to Foggy....and Dally was so cheesed off about it too!
I thought some of the kick chases down the hill from both Whitty and Dally were exceptional.
Also, not forgetting credit where its due to the Barrow defence in that last 40.
They held up really well considering the amount of sustained pressure, lesser teams would have caved in and been on the wrong side of a good hiding.

The last few games against Barrow (twice) and Gateshead have really looked like we're making Whitebank a fortress and playing it to our advantage.

I'd love to see us play Saints at Whitebank but sadly it seems that probably isnt going to happen

Eh up RTG ... that's not very classy, it's a free country brother and we hope to post what we want without negatives like that.

But as you ask .... our completion rates were fantastic yesterday and we're really learning how to make the most of home advantage but a warning to you before you carried away again, we similarly played very well two weeks ago against the same team on the same ground and then lost the next game.

So yesterday will mean nothing if we lose next week and we still don't have a plan B for when Roden gets injured .... smell the coffee

Fantastic second half performance on Sunday. Dallimore really stepped up his game and took control whilst Whitty had a cracker at stand off. Fogarty was excellent at centre both in attack and defense and must stay in the team. Noone was also excellent especially in the second half whilst the majority of the pack had good games. Lucas was very good on the wing making significant yards whilst Robinson worked extremely hard on the other side.

Our attack still isn't as good as it should be and will need to improve to get us into the top four. We need to get Greenwood into the game more especially in dangerous areas as whenever he gets the ball he looks very good. The defense looks very solid and I think Barrow only made one clean break all game.

Did my eyes deceive me or was the a Leeds player in the dugout. Possible signing?

Was that not Syron? Or could it be Sinfield trying to live his dream and sign for his home town club. Bet it irritates him no end that his brother has done something he hasn't. Heh heh heh!

I thought I saw Danny Bravo on the bench. Maybe he was just there to watch the game rather than signing again.

Hiya Brooksy - it was Danny Bravo - I believe a friend of Paul, the kit man. Callum is doing great things at Fax - it would be good to have DB back on board.

Totally agree with you regarding our attack - Cloughy was sometimes used as a pivot - his best game is when scooting from acting half - we need the pack running in pairs ready for offloads or running the angles near the line. A Leighther in our village raves about Greenwood from his time there. I agree he needs to be brought into the attack more - also good discipline like that on show on Sunday has to be maintained if we are heading for promotion.

I agree think we need to get Greenwood more involved, I'd give him a go at 6 and your right about the angles Whitty and Dally ain't the most creative half backs so we need to help them out by giving them more options.

Thought Bravo was disappointing last season , not surprised Casey's doing well for Fax, he was a class act.

I hear that Graham Holroyd has been brought in as plan B?
