I ask the question because I get the impression that the club have a somewhat different notion of competing to the one that a lot of the fans have.
Surely if you take part in a competition of any kind you do so because you want to win?
As a sportsman you want to compete against the best, to challenge yourself against others?
I cannot believe that the player's who played against London yesterday were not out there to try and win and upset a bigger(?) team?

How come then, after reading the comments attributed to WJ and after reading some of the posts on here to I get the distinct impression the club knew the whole thing was a waste of time,it was going through the motions of playing the game, to get it out of the way. Similar to what happened with the NR Cup. Now we can concentrate on the few league games we have left and before you know it the season is over.

I find the lack of passion and ambition to knock over a team from SL, really depressing. We have had had 10 injured players out or rested or cup tied or whatever it was but I did not see one word written or said anywhere to indicate the team was up for it and especially the coach.
When I was younger there was always a buzz about playing in the cup, especially if you played someone from a higher league. I am well aware the fixture was in London, long way to go and all that but even if it had been a home game I am not sure it would have changed the air of general appathy running through the build up to this game.I questioned WJ's approach and will to win earlier in the season when we could no longer qualify for the NR Cup.

Sad to have to do it again.

The underlying reason may be that WJ has been told that we must improve our league position this year, and has taken this literally.

I get the feeling that WJ is focussed on securing his position as coach to the detriment of the club and its supporters.

AN honourable defeat is almost as satisfying as a win (to the fans at least) sadly WJ demonstrates a complete disregard for such principles when he talks about "dead rubbers" or "inconvenient fixtures"

Totally agree with above. Yesterday was an absolute disgrace. I can take us losing but we had waved the White flag before we even left Dewsbury.

It goes totally against what sport is about.

I felt sorry for the young lads selected.

Hope the club doesn't do anymore pieces about crowds diminishing because who wants to travel 400 miles to see
that?

Are the club going to start informing the supporters which games they are going to "try" in and which they aren't?

One word DISGUSTED.No offence to the players that were selected, they didnt give up but it was men against boys.We knew there was a few injuries but surely we could have put a stronger team out than that. Its the supporters i feel sorry for.A few of these lads had booked shifts off work and thats how they get repaid. Its no good putting press releases in the day befores papers, buses have to be booked and deposits taken. The club asked this week for the supporters and the towns people of the town to stand up and support the club.At the start of the season the supporters bought season tickets and showed loyalty to the club.Well im sorry but we need a bit of loyalty back and yesterday we didnt get it.The club insulted its most loyalist of supporters. The hardcore, those that go to every match. Its not good enough, yesterday the club lost a lot of respect from these fans.

Not often I agree with you matey but I couldnt more in this instance. Why should the fans pay their hard money (especially in this financial climate) and make the effort if the coach makes it clear that he and the club arent bothered. Ok your chances of winning were slim, but at the same time London arent Wigan. A good performance and competing should surely have only helped with confidence and morale for the rest of the season. And for the fans too.

Surely the idea of any sport is to at least try win.

At the risk of being shot down (and we have our own 'issues' at the moment across the valley), Warren Jowett needs to realise that Dewsbury Rams isnt about Warren Jowett, and that the club will still be there along time after he is.

Maybe the problem is that Warren is too honest for his own good. Had he said before the match "we are putting out our strongest team and they will compete", it might have been a better option than getting his excuses in first. To the folks that took the time, trouble and expense to go, I take my hat off to you - I think the majority of fans more or less expected a lack of interest in the tie by the coach, but you went anyway - good on you. The impression that this was a team full of kids doesn't really hold water though. Of sundays team, only Tebb, Olpherts,Samuels and possibly Akaidere were not expected to be regulars at the start of the season. Incidentally, would the club have been within it's rights to concede the tie, given that it was always going to be a disaster on both the playing and financial side ?

Agree with this GOR.

I believe that if a club were to concede a CC tie they would automatically be excluded from the following season's competition.
Believe what you see, don't see what you believe.

The Hunslet game is a must win game and they have a good set of players and Barry Eaton is a canny coach.

It isn't any more or less important than the London game. This season there is no promotion or relegation so who gives a widdle where we finish? As long as we see a Dewsbury club giving their all every week, we cannot ask for much more as fans. On Sunday we did not see that.

A top 6 finish in the League is the target this season and watch Batley put their strongest team out they have available pick up one or two injuries and lose by over 20 points next round of the cup.
Dewsbury Rams win machine.

Is there any reason for competing today?

Surely with Jowitts philosophy he should rest all his players today saving them for next season. There's no point in risking any of them, they could injure themselves for next season.

I see the players "injured" for the London game have made a miraculous recovery and are back to play Hunslet. Well done everybody!
