LowWhat are the chances at playing it at Whitebank?....Televised??
& High!
Great draw!
LAtics are away to Bury that weekend, with one more home game after thats, so that looks a possibility too (politics excepted)
Mind you I would have thought that Saints would not relish Whitebank!
Money is the greater need though, I;d have thought, it might even fund some of the stadium development.
Mind oyu I reckon a switch would be more likely.
Saints don't travel well do they....

A big fat NONE ............. In fact I would hazard a guess that St Helens would, if actually asked, refuse to come to Oldham and play at the Whitebank anyway .... as for playing at Boundary Park, it would be a waste of money ( as Latics would want a few grand for staging the match ) I dont think many would come from St helens to watch a whitewash ....120-nil, as not many bothered to travel the few miles to Widnes .... I dont think many will turn up from Oldham im sorry to say, as it will be too painfull to watch such a miss-match ... The only sensible solution is to swap home advantage ... but only if Saints are willing to pay a sum for such a swap ...maybe £5,000 or so .... I can not see any other sensible solution

120-0? Can't see us beating Saints by that many. Heh heh heh.
....yes you are probably right there having thought about it .... I will not be able to go for the reasons that I have said ........ one of the first games I ever saw was an oldham win over Saints in February 1967 thanks to a Mike Mooney drop goal .....

We would £ better of playing at home with 1500 crowd plus hospitality and have a better chance of keeping the score more respectable.
However as discussed on Radio Manc on Sunday evening the Challenge Cup is a farce these days as too much inequality and as a result too many stupid scores and no interest in uncompetitive games, rugby league needs restructuring !

Why switch to Langtree ? Widnes v Saints on Sat only had a crowd of 3,000, if we go there can't see more than 2,000 turning up !

If played at Langtree ...there would probably be around 6,000 or 7,000 there .... being the very FIRST Chall Cup Tie played on that ground if for no other reason, more money for Oldham, they would have 1/3 receipts from 6,000 in liue of just 1,500. It would also be a fantastic experience for all the Oldham players to play on such a surface, not to mention in front of so many spectators. Most if not all of them will never have the chance to play in such a match or stadium again in their careers. The money however is the main criteria, as the receipts will be 10 times greater at Saints than at Oldham ....
As for restructuring the game,.. It is a closed shop in Super League ...and the SL Clubs are exempt from the early rounds anyway ...If by restructuring you mean bring those at the top down in standard to those in the middle or even those at the bottom, you might as well BAN the game altogether if you dont want to see constant improvement IN RUGBY LEAGUE ( forgret your own club interest ).... In any sport there HAS to be someone at the bottom level for there to actually be a TOP level, why would anyone want to make EVERYONE mediocre ?????

As for cricket scores in rugby league like Wigan putting 98 past N Wales yesterday that's not my idea of "constant improvement"
I suggest restructuring to make it more competitive !

Roughyedz .... 6,000 or 7,000 at Langtree !! what planet are you on ?

We shall see ................ as I have already said before "why would anyone want to make EVERYONE mediocre ?????"......You are never going to get a League of 30 teams like you havd in the 60's and 70's , even then there was many a gome of 40 or 50 points between the teams ......there are just not enough top quality players to go round , and of course the clubs that get the top quality playes ( as with all other sports ) are the ones with the most money ...... You would seem to be suggesting that those with the money be restricted in their spending to what those with virtually none have ..... which would result in a leveling down of the standard ..... Just like this govt is trying to level down the wages paid in this country

Financially, we won't make any money out of it if we switch to Boundary Park (as has been said before, Politics willing)
If we could get them at the Whitebank it would be a "grand day out". An all ticket match, superb.

No suprises there then!Sorry to spoil all the speculation!! CH has just been on Radio Manchester and confirmed that we shall not be allowed to play a Challenge Cup match against Super League opposition at Whitebank and discussions will be taking place with the relevant parties tomorrow.
Its either Boundary park (att:2-3000 and score 10-70)
OR
Langtree (att:3-4000 and score 10 -90)
Not all that appealing a draw when you home in on the details.
The gap between SL and CC1 is comical, the best way to look at it is the extra cash generated for the much needed stadium development, and im still bewildered at the silence on this most pressing issue.
