just read in league weekly that paul rafferty as signed for saddleworth from leigh east, and mick fogerty ex keithley oldham centre playing down their as well, are they paying players at saddleworth? surely they wouldnt go their for nothing!

Well raffs from the Eccles area so I'm sure it'd be closer to travel to Leigh east than saddleworth. It's a funny one aswell lookin at the previous results for saddleworth

Doubt they'd be going for nothing indeed! £100 a week is being banded about!

I don't know about Paul Rafferty, but I know for a fact that Paul Raftery has moved from Leigh East to Saddleworth. He is from Sale by the way and spent most of his early years with Eccles before playing pro for Barrow, Oldham, Rochdale and South Wales Scorpions. Maybe the Saddleworth connection comes from his time at Oldham. Good luck to them if they can afford to pay players but I think its a slippery slope. I don't care about this issue any more. A club will get more out of a player who genuinely wants to play for them.

surely if their paying one they have to pay them all, cant be good for team spirit if some players are getting payed every week and others are just their for enjoyment, like celtic rooster said sooner have 17 players who want to play for the club instead of lads just turning up for a pay packet

Did fogerty not play and score at the weekend for oldham in the CC?

Paul has been asked to do a job at Saddleworth who look like relegation contenders at the moment.
If it doesn't work out we would welcome him back at East. In the half dozen or so games he has played for us at East he has shown good leadership abilities, plus made a few mistakes.
May be a step towards coaching.

Raferty is passed it. Wouldn't pay him 2 pints a week never mind £100! Gateshead pay less than that for a loss in Championship 1!
