The curtain finally came down today on another aspect of Swinton RLFC's history with the demolition of what was originally the Lions' Club on Station Road, probably better known in recent times as the Folly Club. Whilst driving down Station Road earlier today I glanced to my left to observe the demolition men nearing the end of their task. This action had been long overdue and it was time to finally clear away what had lately become such an eyesore.
As I recall, the 'Lions' Club' was built in the mid '60s and my best memory is the celebrations on Saturday night 1st November, 1969 after the Lions had beaten Leigh 11-2 to win the Lancashire Cup at Central Park, Wigan that afternoon.
