Hi Roughyed48

David Liddiard
Mick Sullivan
Charlie Mcalister
Tommy Martin
Wally Gibson
Marty Turner
Mike Ford
Hugh Waddell/Barrie McDermott
Kevin Taylor/Alan McCurrie
Tiny Solomona/Tony Tonks
Andy Goodway/Chris Joint
Bob Lindner/Bob Irving
Terry Flanaga/Mike Kuiti

Subs
Wally Jones (Absolutely solid player)
Richard Russell (Play anywhere, including Hooker)
Paul Taylor (Back Row or Centre)
David Hobbs (Could Kick a goal too)

Apologies for so many but going back to 1970 means a lot of players - and I'm sure I've still missed some but, oh the memories. Got to be honest though, I'd be very happy with the above players at their prime plying their trade for us now.

So far I agree with all those and more it's a never ending debate. However I would just like to add a couple of nuggets that I found interesting.

Second row partnerships one of the best I saw and it came from two rather average individuals was Shaun Allen and Keith Newton, together they were fantastic for Oldham.

Unusual winger - Paul Round. Think it was at old trafford in one of the 2nd div prem finals.

Unusual Hooker - Terry flanagan, there was even talk of him representing GB at hooker after he stood in for Ruane i think it was.

Unusual full back - Charlie McAlistair played full back for us in one of his first games at home straight fro RU in Bradford I remember him trying to ground the Ball over his own goal line in order to diffuse it like in union.

The two players I wouldn't like to get tangled with Hussain M'Barki and Ton Nadiole. Rumour is they fed Tom raw liver before he came on heh heh heh!

Best prop never to pass a ball Wally Jones - would run head first into a packed defence but I can't remember him passing.

Fattest player Bruce Bruiser Clarke.

Best story - that of Afi Luella who apparently woke up one night to hear a burglar nicking his video player. Afi being a winger caught him in no time . There a rumours that the burglar wished he'd picked another house heh heh heh.

Good thread , I have a rule that I can't pick any one season wonders eg Liddard, Lidner, O'Sullivan, as good as they were, so the players in this team are time served !

1/ Wally Gibson
2/ Hussain M'Barki
3/ Des Foy
4/ Charlie McAllister
5/ Scott Ranson ... for his try at the Willows!(no stand out candidate others Mike Taylor, Paul Sherman, Chris Eckersley)
6/ David Topliss
7/ Mike Ford
8/ Hugh Waddell
9/ John Hough
10/ Barry McDermott
11/ Andy Goodway
12/ Mick Worrall
13/ 'Flash' Flanagan

Oh and I forgot best looking player and one with a gentle personAlity John Cogger !

Most yards lost for talking back to the ref - Alan McCurrie.

Best name combo for imports at the same time Gilbert and O'Sullivan. ashly and Chris respectively.

My thoughts too! Good as Mike Ford was, he didn't stop the opposing scrum half from having a good game as well. Ironic that he's a defence coach now!

What about Alan Taylor and Duncan Platt?
Kevin Meadows? Slow to get going I know, but once he was going he could shift, and outside Charlie he was given the room.
Mike Taylor? I know he couldn't catch, but with him on the park there were very few long distance tries scored against us.

As great a player as he was Lidner only turned it on for Oldham for half a season after Tunks got the chop and he got the job, don't remember him ripping up any trees at Donny away in the cup !

So I can't see how he can really be in anyone's dream team. Ok it was a fantastic 12 or so games but his contribution to the club as a player was very limited.

Great postings - some cracking players over the years. I was a fan of both Frank Foster, the plague of one Saints legend scrum half, and Mick Morgan who used to run at the line, turn his back and feed Hobbsy the ball who was running the angles - a good few points scored off that move. But was dropped in the semi - v Cas  Could not believe it.

How about an Oldham exiles/overseas team?

Wally Gibson

David Liddiard
Tony Anderson
Iva Ropati
Charlie McAllister

Brett Clarke
Marty Turner ANY TWO
Chris O'Sullivan

Bruiser Clarke
Paul Taylor
Jason Temu
Mike Kuiti
Bob Lindner
John Cogger

Terry Glasse
Gary Warnecke
Glen Liddiard
Hussein M'Barki

18th Byron Ford
19th Gary Bridge

Struggling for extra forwards to add to the bench. Somebody help please.

The name Chris Phelan just came to mind. Matt Monroe?

What about Wally Gibson's clearance runs from behind the line?
