Very impressed with our old boys last night - and the rest of the fev team of course. I would say that the gulf in class between Wigan and Fev was, on paper, about the same as that between us and the Broncos, but DP instilled belief in his players and let anybody in the media who would listen, know that Fev were more than capable of causing another upset. His charges responded with a show of grit, determination, and sheer bloodymindedness that made a mockery of the difference in class. The tackling was awesome, the players worked for each other, and every one of them looked as if he would die for the shirt. Contrast that with our own coach's attitude against London. He made his excuses beforehand, talked down his team, and gave the impression that the fringe players would be nothing more than cannon fodder - which of course they duly were. The message seemed to be " we're going to get hammered anyway so just go out and try and enjoy youselves " - some enjoyment eh? I know you can't make superleague players out of championship standard players anymore than you can polish a ######, but you can instil belief in them and make them play to the best of and above their natural ability - DP proved that last night, and made the whole of Featherstone proud. In the local rags last week WJ expressed his satisfaction at his teams efforts - I reckon that if DP had been in charge of that same team, there wouldn't have been much more than twenty points in it, because they would have played with PRIDE.

There is a vast gulf in coaching ability, personally I think DP is as good if not better than any other British coach in the game
Featherstone must be paying him well, as I`m sure his services would be coverted in Super League
When I want your opinion, I will remove the gaffer tape

I guess that should read "are being" S.T.R.
He wasn't good enough for Leeds mind.

He was dumped upon from a great height by the loiners, some cock and bull story about sending him to Australia to develop his skills, then suddenly he was replaced by a fashionable antipodean

Don't forget they did let him have a go with the Tykes for a while. That must have been where he picked up his more cerebral approach from.
