Conrad Bain, aged 89. He played the father in the American sitcom Diff'rent Strokes, so outlived two out of his three 'children'.

Frank Keating

I read his obit in the Grauniad this morning. Well I'm sorry he's dead but can't help feeling a bit of schadenfreude, after all in 2000 he did predict the death of RL in five years and whatever happens in the future it outlived Frank. RIP

Bad day for music lovers.
Cecil Womack, aged only 65.
Donald Byrd, aged a more reasonable 80.

Womack and Womack were a brilliant act. I'm going to dig out my copy of Radio MUSC Man and give Cecil a requiem whiz on the turntable.

For anyone thinking of buying their Greatest Hits CD, my advice is ... dont, I hate its (to me) horrible live version of Love Wars, its remixed version of Teardrops and the general overall feel of the assembled tracks.

Sad to hear about Donald Byrd - even if you think you've never heard him, if you've heard a hip hop tune with sampled horns then you almost certainly have!

I only have one track of his, from a compilation album. But that track is 'Black Byrd' and it's seriously cool! The title track from one of Blue Note's biggest ever sellers.

Songwriter and record producer George 'Shadow' Morton, apparently. Can't find a link yet, though.

Derek Batey, host of 'Mr & Mrs'.

Mindy McCready, country singer. Suicide, apparently.

Rumours also abound that Richard Briers has died. :(Briers' death confirmed on the BBC.
