Shocking news about Johnny, but he had a pretty good innings considering his historic health and addiction issues.

He was brilliant live and, apart from his own catalogue,  all blues fans revere him for resurrecting the career of Muddy Waters. I remember buying the I'm Ready album and being knocked out by it.

He also provided production, guitar and backing vocals on my favourite of Muddy's recorded versions of Mannish Boy, which is P7 on my jukebox. I'm just playing it now in remembrance.

It would seem Johnny Winter has died age 70.

I know this will come as a bit of a shock to l'angelo as he is a big fan.

dead heat with their Edgar

Edgar's still around, and probably will be for a while, as he's been living clean for longer.

I remember the first time I discovered him - ITV's late night show 'Cue the Music' showed the 1988 live recording he did with Leon Russell, which you can get on DVD these days. It  hasn't all dated well, especially the backing band's Eighties dress sense, but they do some great songs from both stars' back catalogues.

Somewhat surprisingly, famed disco producer Dan Hartman, who died young of Aids, was a member of both Johnny and Edgar Winters' bands.

An odd coincidence the BBC showed "Grand Prix" yesterday afternoon, possibly his finest film.

I loved the Rockford Files when I was a lad. Rockford was a pretty cool character and the show epitomized 1970s America, or at least what I thought it was like.

He probably deserved some better roles later on but his ability to crossover between movies and TV was quite unusual at the time. In fact, even now it's not common.

'Support your local Gunfighter' and 'Support your local Sheriff' were both great fun vehicles for James Garner.

I wish I could say that I liked him, but I didn't. Couldn't stand him.

Sorry that he went so young, though.
