No more raindrops for Hal David

He leaves behind some of the absolute greatest popular songs ever written. A legend.
"Journalists are meant to be neutral, for God's sake." - Stephen 'Wiggy' Jones

"Perhaps it would be better that future criticism of sports be made on the narrow basis of what is being discussed, without reference to other sports, unless those sports offer a solution to the problem in hand." - Brian 'Pigface' Moore

"What happens in rugby union? A player takes the ball, moves forward a little and gets tackled. A whole load of players then roll about on the ground. Pheep! The referee gives a penalty." - Simon Barnes

Michael Clarke Duncan, oh my god! Only 54. Best known probably for John Coffey in The Green Mile, but is in many more films.

I always liked John Oaksey. Though I'm not a racing fan, he used to write a very good column in the Telegraph.

Hal David was probably my favourite lyricist. There's a nice piece about him from Mark Steyn, which focuses mainly on his and Bacharach's first American number one.

As you get to a certain age, parts of your childhood die off, one by one. Terry on 'Animal Magic' was one, as was reading about his part in the life of Gavin Maxwell. :(

Ah, Candi Staton. Still recording, albeit in a more traditional Soul style. Check out the album 'His Hands' for a taste - it's excellent.
