Apologies to all as this is nothing to do with Rugby, but as me & Pete M are Man City fans, just cannot let yesterday pass without spouting something on here.
Put up with all the sc*m stuff for 40 odd years, nice to see them done in the last seconds.....

Have to say as a child spent a lot of time with my Dads side of the family who lived in Belle Vue part of Manchester where a lot of City fans were
living and my hero in them days was Bert Trautman who played with a broken neck in the 1954 FA Cup,and followed them from a distance ever
since, nice to see the Blues rising once again.

1969 was when I started to support City, mainly because at school everyone supported United
or Leeds, Colin Bell was my hero, absolute legend.

Must've been a fabulous day for any sky blue out there. Bell, Summnerbee, Lee, Young, etc - a right team that was. Just glad this generation finally got some success.

All I need is for Barnsley to qualify for Europe and Fev to win the SL grand final and I'm made up!!

Got to say the teams over the years have had a lot of unsung heroes but lived in the shadows of the Reds, but do agree Colin Bell
was the quiet assasin when playing could hit a sweet volley should have played for England more than he did.

Ah, yes. Maine Road. Didnt go very often cos it was miles away in them days !! Colin Bell was absolute class. Name your favorite three City players - mine were CB, Dennis Tueart and The Goat.
Ey Deano, it is possible to be a fan of more than one team at a time. In those days I was a Man City fan but could never get there, a Leeds fan ( got there about six or seven times a season, packed up when Tony Currie left !! ) and YCFC cos I could get on the bus...
Funny was only thinking about Bob 'The Spider' Widdowson the other day.
First saw City beat Colchester in 1961, Tom Forgan was in goal and John Stainsby got a hat-trick.

Thanks for that Mate...
Can't possibly think why I didn't support YCFC, unfortunately was there when they beat Man City 2 - 1.

Alway's followed/supported my home town teams. None of this supporting Leeds, Manchester United/City or Liverpool, none of this supporting Wigan, Leeds, Saints. Work with people who claim to support Bulls, Wigan, Manchester United but have never ever have been to their grounds. Would be there on Staurday night at POR if I could change/swap my shift at work. Think of all the great players who have graced the pitches at Clarence Street, Bootham Crescent and Huntington Staium. Supporting your home town teams against the "big boys" makes those wins extra special, remember Castleford in the quater finals? Arsenal in the FA cup? Shame more people from the City of York don't support the Knights (500 crowds) and City (3300 crowds). Rant over, have a nice day :D

Can't argue with your rant, and agree totally with support your home town first and foremost as I have, but does'nt mean to say you can't admire teams from a distance and it's about time the people of York took it upon themselfes to get behind all the teams who represent this
great City.

Agree wholeheartedly, went to Wembley last Saturday and taking another car full this Sunday, I don't regularly watch City, however they deserve the support on getting to two finals and both at Wembley, if they can pull off another win then how many clubs have won at Wembley twice within 7 days? The City fans were superb and we all had a great day out, we will be heavily outnumbered on the Terraces on Sunday so I would urge all you other Knights fans who can possibly get there to get a ticket and come and watch a team from our great City win there way back into the football league. City also played some excellent football in the 2nd half to win the game.

Don't really agree, but each to their own.

What does my head in is things like Radio York last night saying that today was D day for York City's new stadium - no mention of the word 'Knights' or 'Community',
But of course City are doing well & us not so well, so we don't exist anymore......

It annoys me that York RL invested £750,000 into the development of Huntington Stadium approx 40% of the cost in 1989, yet York City FC will be bringing a much lesser % to the proposed new stadium. Without the rugby's investment Huntington Stadium would not have existed yet the media refer to the new stadium as if it belongs to the football club.

very well said . i know the huntington stadium is a bit tatty and could be better but as far as i am aware we don't need a new
stadium.
the proposed new stadium is too small and in the wrong place. every report is against it,even the planning dept don't know what to make of it
if we were to get a new stadium, it should have a rail link or at the very least good road access, but then what do i know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
at the end of the day the council will do what they want just like the £45 million offices. rant over
sometimes you have to take a step backwards to move forward

Sorry for the late reply, Shades - just coming back down to earth. Not enough superlatives to describe what happened.

As for following local teams - if anyone's bothered, I'm a born and bred Mancunian, followed City (Man City) from the day i could decipher blue from red, and stood on the Kippax from the age of about 14 (when i was allowed to go on me own). Boy have we had to put up with a lot... even on Sunday the b******s put us through the mill... but It's all suddenly become worthwhile.

I also watched Salford as a kid with my granddad (and still hate the fact Un*ted stole the nickname Red Devils from them)... so not much joy there.

Given I've lived in York for over a decade, I also follow York City, and I obviously support the Knights. Can't see why York City fans shouldn't follow the Knights, and vice versa.

As requested Pete, managed to keep away from watching the game until the last 10 minutes in the Golden Lion in Church street, still can't believe it & its all a bit of a blur which is annoying, but decided to have another go at celebrating it last night which just about worked.
