WHITEBANK will score another ‘first’ this Thursday afternoon when the Oldham Schools’ Year 11 rugby league cup final between Bluecoat and Saddleworth will be staged at the home of Oldham RL Club. Kick-off will be timed for between 4pm and 4.15.
The corresponding final last year was held at Hollinwood and in 2009 and 2010 at Manor Park, home of Oldham RU Club.
Inter-school rugby league in Oldham and Tameside falls under the auspices of that region’s Service Area which felt it was appropriate this year for cup finals to be staged at the home of the town’s professional rugby league club.
Service Area official Steven Nield, the Roughyeds’ reserves team full-back or winger, said there were plans to have four more age-group finals at Whitebank over the course of the next few weeks.
The Service Area will be back at Whitebank on Friday night for town team under-18s training ahead of their game against Manchester and Salford at Salford City Reds’ new stadium on Tuesday, May 29 (6pm).
The game will be a curtain-raiser to a match between Adrian Morley’s all-star team and the Manchester and Salford open-age squad for the Don Preston Memorial Trophy, which kicks off at 7.30pm.

Again, the community links grow stronger and stronger. Well done to the club/service area/schools for supporting this.

Should be a cracker.

I reckon the club will do something along those lines, as they have done offers in the past for the Service Area/Local Schools/Clubs etc.
A great gesture by the club, and something that has been needed for a long while.

Just another positive sign of the club moving forward. Despite what the knockers say. Well done oldham.

I don't recall anybody knocking this type of work Tosh - I remember playing at Sheddings when I was a lad and it was an amazing experience in front of a big crowd.

No Sheddings but there are many who knocking those who have been involved in making this happen. We would all love the current situation to be better but it's great to see progress like this. I too have great memories of playing at Sheddings as a lad and as an adult and will always cherish them.

Well said Tosh, there are people who do care and try and do something to facilitate that change. And there are others who sit back do nothing, and shout the loudest.

........and it would appear that there are some who are desparate to help but are simply turned away!!!
