The students lead 18-12 at the break and shortly afterwards 24-12 up. Into the final quarter the Army threw everything at them, edging into a 30-28 lead, but the students had the last word to take the win.

The fact that such a fixture could even take place and out of the heartlands to boot shows how far the game has progressed from when RU would have banned the game in the Forces, banned the game in the Universities and banned the use of the pitch. We owe a great debt of thanks to those who forced through the free gangway agreement.
Lots of military units in the south, not so many in the north.

Given that I suggested that forces RL is always going to be skewed to the south, I'm not sure why you made that point.

Good old BARLA for breaking the barriers down and the forces have more or less always played outside the heartlands.

Loads of Student and Armed Services rep games are played in the south these days, certainly with last night, Derby was a genuine central location for players of both sides.
Derby is a good location for these types of games, just wish there was more notice of them taking place

BARLA or Martyn Coyd & Co?
Do you honestly believe he did it all by himself or is it selected memory?

Lets not for get that BARLA fought hard to break down the barriers and I'd credit the RFL controlled RLC for the latter.Yes my point was that at one time, RL was not played in the armed forces, north or south, two RL was not played in the Universities. Three RL was not allowed to be played on any RU controlled grounds anywhere so we have come a long way.

Your not allowed to give BARLA any credit on hereBARLA were the shakers and movers but the group of MPs who pushed it in parliament and questioned the Govt grants to RU when they were banning huge segments of the population from playing their game was also important. Anyway, the game has progressed in leaps and bounds since that gangway was put in place.
