Is the season over or can we still grab a promotion spot!
Personally the last four losses have left me disillusioned, dishearted, despondent, dejected and defused but Tbozz’s post clearly shows how seriously we are suffering with injuries. I agree we can’t rely on that excuse for ever but the truth of the matter is that again we have been struck down by a monumental problem of injuries. (13 first team players out)
With nine games gone and only 3 wins and a draw to show for it, it is clear that the level of performance is not up the standard expected by Oldham RLFC, The players and the supporters. On the plus side we are gaining bonus points but will that be enough?
Can we turn it around? (Positive)
Well with nine games to go, why can’t we turn it around, especially once the experienced first team players return and of course Dally finishes his ban. North Wales Crusaders is a vitally important game, followed by the local derby the following week. We have a week off now so hopefully we can get some of the injured players back and play like Oldham can! But that brings its own pressure because we must win at least 6 or 7 our last 9 games to even think about promotion.
Can we turn it around? (Negative)
Having watched all of Oldham’s games this season, and especially at home, there is an air of dejection around the ground, yesterdays match was an excellent example of a lack of performance by everybody at the club, and everybody must take responsibility for the wins and losses, from the top to the bottom!
We lacked leadership in the forwards and attackingly we are reduced to a few basic plays. We were especially poor defensively yesterday, missing tackles in vital positions and the STUPID penalties we gave away was frustrating and annoying. Offensively we deserve to be in the lower end of the table because we are very poor indeed. Gilly had a shocker yesterday, and some players need to reflect on their own performances, I really can’t knock the commitment of the players tho because yesterday was a very very hot day and they deserved credit for playing in such conditions.
We have players, playing out of position, players, playing with injuries so we can put a team out. We are the only CC1 team with a reserve side and that has produced players like Dally etc but at what cost, Promotion!!!!!!!!!!!
Doncaster, Barrow (Newly formed), Whitehaven and Workington have al invested in experience players to ensure promotion because they know what next season will bring in Championship One.
Coach?
The coach is paid for results and we have 3 wins, a draw and bonus points, not good enough if we had a fully fit squad of players, especially during this important promotion season.
We are 5th in the league and we have narrowly lost most of the games, apart from the Doncaster game, we have produced decent performances with a patched squad and if promotion does come our away this season, it will be a credit to the players.
If we miss out on promotion AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! Then in my opinion we should make changes at the end of the season because can we afford to sack the coach? We still have to buy out his contract and then hire another more coach on a long term contract because a good coach will not come for the last 6 or 7 games of the season. All of the above cost money!
We are all in this together, The coaches need to produce results, the players need to produce strong professionals performances and the supporters (You) need to turn up and cheer the team on. We all have a part to play.
Come on Oldham!!!!!!!!!

Just one minor positive, whitehaven lost and didn't get the bonus point. So we are a point closer to them than we were last week. I know it's not much but..........!

plus Crusaders lost without the BP, which makes them 2nd from bottom. We have two weeks to get more players back, and Nobby told us yesterday he'll be back for it.
So it's not all doom and gloom. NWC is a real possibilty to get a win, and put the record straight regarding the quality of our team.

We can still get promotion. There are enough matches left.
To do so we have to beat the teams above us in particulay whitehaven and Workington at the same time matching them point for point when we dont play them.
We have a lot of injuries but we have to start winning the games against teams below us with or without those injuries.
