hi all, I've seen on here several times from Oldham fans and also on the Rochdale forum that there seems to be a firmly held belief that if you dont get promoted this year then that's it and there is no promotion from Championship 1 for a few years. I also heard someone saying that at Whitebank on Saturday.
I believe that to be false - all I have ever seen is that p&r between Championship and Championship 1 continues as from next season with 2 going down and 2 going up.
Can someone please illuminate me as to where the belief comes from that you're stuck in Championship 1 if you dont go up this year? Yes, you'd be in a sitcky spot with less away fans and less enticing fixtures for locals to come to but it's only one season and if you cant beat the bejaysus out of what's left next season then you deserve to be in Championship 1 anyway.

I agree, I'm sure I've read normal promo and relegation is effective from 2013 don't think it's a closed shop !

Come on Roughyeds lets think positive and start planning for promotion in 2013 !!!!! :D

If that is the case then I am less worried and actually feeling better about things. I would rather us go up but I would also rather us stick to being solvent and staying down a season than overspend to get up and struggle once up there.

Again, I hope this is true although, having said that, I still feel that promotion this year is still on the cards.

There's definitely still promotion. Heard a rumour it might be just 1 spot, not 2. But not heard this officially confirmed.

There will be minimum ground criteria though.

Promotion and relegation will then return between the two Championships from 2013.

Clubs in the Championship however will have to meet minimum standards, such as a 3,000 stadium capacity, with Rimmer describing the changes as a “leap of faith”, accepting there may be an initial lowering of quality on the pitch in the largely expansion based Championship One.

Its the top 4 that go UP . . . .so to speak this year .......so its a better chance out of 4 as opposed to just the ONE ( perhaps ) promotion spot next year ....... as as already said if you cant get in the top 4 this year  ........lol .....well no more to be said .........

Hi Roughyedz

This season was always going to be difficult with Doncaster and Barrow being in the division along with everyone else with aspirations to go up and therefore strengthening their squads. Trying to get a top 4 spot when there are 6 or 7 good sides is more difficult than trying to get a top spot when there is only 1 good side. With that in mind I believe that if we miss out this season - and I still think we'll nick one of the spots - then promotion next season my be a little easier. Not achieving a top 4 spot this season is not a reflection of a bad team, more a reflection of how good some of the others are.

Let's hope we make it up and can maintain our place in the Championship.

What quality would the pool of players be available for the sides left in Championship 1 after the strengthening of Championship squads for the new season.I would suggest it would be even more difficult for the one spot after this seasons squad would be cherry picked for the better quality players to Championship teams and who could blame them(Cheltenham,Hemel Hempstead,Gateshead etc etc)We would also have a much smaller budget(Cutting cloth to suit etc, etc.)
