Hull KR's chairman, Neil Hudgell, says the days of his club chasing big-name signings from Australia are over. Although he expects "a couple" of new additions from the NRL next season, he insists there will be no repeat of the Willie Mason saga.
The Robins last year paraded the former Australian Test forward as one of the biggest signings in their history, but Mason played six matches before the club cut their losses and released him.
"We aren't in the market for big names," Hudgell told the Hull Daily Mail. "We can't afford them, given how the market is. We tried hard to retain Shannon McDonnell for next season but we couldn't get anywhere near the terms he was offered elsewhere."

They got their fingers burnt with Big Willie and money is tight at the moment everywhere in the UK so i suppose them 2 things alone have given Rovers a reality check.

I think it's great news, i really hope English clubs put more resources into junior player development rather than money into the pockets of overseas players.

Agreed but Hull will have to find enough juniors for two competitive SL sides.
Good luck to them but it will be tough going...........

The problem for Rovers is that they still didn't get the surge in attendances the thought they would when they got into SL.They will be lucky to get 8000 there tomorrow against Wire, the Mason signing was a disaster for them and he couldn't add people onto the gate when he was there. I would like to know what there breakeven figure is and how many times they have hit it.

Not that tough - there are already 4 or 5 ex Hull players in HKR's squad
Not counting David Hodgson, a Hull lad.
Also nice to see a few local lads making it in the RU world recently as well - I think you'll find your old chestnut is wearing thin, Parky!
