Was at the Hunslet Warriors v Dudley Hill game as a neutral on Monday afternoon. A decent day with a healthy crowd watching. But yet again I was amazed that the game only had 2 officials on duty that is there was only 1 touch judge. This is a joke and reflects badly on the conference league, was wondering how other clubs were finding this, not as if there was a full fixture list on the bank holiday or anything.

No but it was a bank holiday with a full fixture list over the weekend.
I would presume no one was available but not sure how this reflects badly on the conference league.

Have we come across another possible problem with summer rugby?
Carlsberg don't do Soldiers, but if they did, they would probably be Brits.<div align='center'></div>

We had a referee changed on us a few weeks ago because he was needed to run the touchline in an Under 15's scholarship game!! The standard of the officials is at risk of spoiling the competition IMHO.

Not really, more a problem of not enough refs and prioritising U15 scholarship over the NCL. There has always been an overlap between the seasons when refs were in short supply. Remember it's not that long ago that NCL games used club touch judges.

So thats a problem for the NCL because the RFL have put the U15's higher in the priority rankings, and when the next U 15's come through and the present 15's move to U 16's and the years that follow...........You see where I'm coming from

The amateur game could soon fall back into the same state it did in the 60's when the RFL tried to gain control away from works & district leagues with the failed supporters team leagues.
If there were enough officials there wouldn't be a problem and that's what should be addressed.

Always been a problem and how do you address it if people don't want to do the job.

Good point, and I think the idea of putting good refs on the line of U15/U16 scholarship instead of reffing amateur open age or being on NCL lines needs looking at.

I'll agree, the top refs of the past cut their teeth gaining experience handling the big boys of the open-age game not training to be robots for the TV
But again this is what the NCL & NWC have signed up too. (The bigger picture is gearing everything up for super league regardless of who falls and gets trampled)

Milford V Acorn on saturday had Steve Presley refereeing with two young touch judges.
Top referee who had total control on the game throughout, and used his touch judges when required for knock ons and forward passes.

Steve has been doing the Yorkshire league for years and always refs down the middle and is a good example on a ref who can keep the game flowing.Milford V Acorn on saturday had Steve Presley refereeing with two young touch judges.

didn't steve ref the sharlo v queens national cup semi final last year? also, about 3 years ago Ben Thaler reffed a local cup match between Kettlethorpe and crigglestone All Blacks. reffed it exactly as he saw it, straight down the middle and was very strong when the game threatened to boil over. excellant throughout talking to the lads and by and large kept the game flowing. Tony Martin (SL Liner) however is awful, a right big head and likes to remind players constantly that he's a super league linesman!!
