2 NEW SIGNINGS FOR RAIDERS

Raiders coach Darren Holt has signed Warrington Wolves U20's Forward duo Bradley Brennan and Ryan Duffy in time for Sundays NRC Quarter Final against Halifax. This move bolsters the squad giving needed cover whilst players recover from injury and with Andy Brajek and james Gordon being unavailable this weekend.
Warrington have confirmed both are strong players with a desire to prove themselves in a competition more physical and demanding than at under 20's level. The players will stay with The Raiders on dual registration and Warrington believe this will be beneficial for all.
I am sure The Raiders fans will give them a warm welcome, and we all look forward to seeing them on Sunday when we knock Halifax out of The NRC.

I seem to remember Mr Holt moaning about Des and the coach at the time bringing in dual reg players, saying it is not good for the club blah blah blah, well how times change Holty, full of it as ever

I know, am just going back to what Holty was like when he was on here slating it in the past, dead set against it, and now when the ###### has hit the fan
he is onto it like a fat kid in a sweet shop. He should have said in his interviews 'I now understand the need for it in the past' but he wont will he, no chance

As I see it, there is a big difference between how we are utilising Dual Reg players this year compared to how we have in the past.

Everyone agreed we had a big squad (28 ?) at the start of this season which was packed with locals, or at least locally based players. Through injury and work committments the squad has been depleted significantly. What were the options ?

> Field injured players (bad for the players and probably worse results for the rest of the season)
> Draft in more locals - probably amateurs (probably worse results for the rest of the season. How many more could make the step-up?)
> Sign Championship/SL player(s) on permanent deals for the rest of the season (availability, ££££)
> Use the Dual Reg system

The Dual Reg option is a 'no-brainer' for me. Fostering links with a top SL club like Warrington could also pay dividends in the seasons to come.

Havnt seen you post on here for a while Rooster ? Now you have its to have a go at the coach for plugging gaps in a very depleated squad. The dual reg used under Des were at his whims and only needed when he realised some of the so called superstars he signed wernt performing ;)

In my opinion ANY help we can get to help us with our goal of promotion is very much appreciated.
What we really need is for our home crowds to drop to around 600 or so and then we would then be able to afford to bring in players of the standard of Lupton, Thackray and Calderwood ;)
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it!

Yes, we can afford it because you took our top earners from the previous season Holty, Kaighan, McGoff, Low, & Pedley. That cleared the way for these other players. Thanks. ;) ;) ;) :D :D :D
I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

I think the difference will be Holty plays them because they are good enough and bring something to the team, not because they are imports and costing money.
If they don't perform he won't pick them IMO?

Anyway, I don't think they can get off school for all the training sessions :)
