Info From Cougar Park Re the Batley Game

As many people will know the Olympic Torch is coming through Keighley around 3.45pm on 24th June. As a result, Keighley Cougars has moved the kick off for the match against Batley Bulldogs to 5pm.

The ground will be open from 1pm to allow diners to partake in a pre-match meal prior to the torch going through Keighley. Once the torch has moved through Keighley, people can come down to the ground to watch the match in time for the 5pm kick off.

An added bonus is that in recognition of United Armed Services day all ex- and current armed services personnel will be allowed into the ground free of charge on production of their ID cards for this game.

Further, the Cougars will be hosting a real Olympic Torch at the ground for people to have their photographs taken with on a small contribution to a chosen charity.

TBH, winding the kick-off time back to 5pm is a shocking idea. Travelling to get to a 5pm kick-off through outgoing Olympic torch traffic with a massive England game kicking off an hour after the final hooter, at a ground that is notoriously awkward to park at? Yeah, well done Keighley. A noon kick-off would have been a much, much better option tomorrow. Or a postponement.

I believe that for these torch relays/processions they close off a number of roads at least two hours before the event. That may result in most of Keighley town centre being blocked and making it even worse. I does look as if the club was stuck between a rock and a hard place - no-one would be happy with whatever they came up with.

I covered a couple of torch jobbies last week for the papers, 2 hours before and 2 hours after was sheer chaos with everything shut off, not just on the direct route but all tributary roads as well, i would personally avoid the area between 2-6pm, traffic control will only allow movement away from the area until all cleared, then they open up all incoming routes, i would imagine that all the roundabouts coming into Keighley will all be closed incoming until at least 5pm

I would have set off well before now, i seriously doubt there will be any traffic movement after 2pm, dont forget the torch is going from Bradford along the route you would be taking so chances are you'll get stuck behing it as it weaves along the A650

does this mean we should be setting off now then!?!?!?

Shocking decision from the Cougars in light of the above. Should have been brought forward to noon or even played yesterday.

According to the radio the torch is running 15 mins late so wont get to keighley while 4.

Will have lost 500 off the gate easily as a result.

######.

It's bad enough getting along that road on a normal Sunday. I'm in 2 minds whether to bother going, what a farce.

What time does the team bus set off? Half 2ish? Will that get there.

The train might be an easier option by the sound of it. Dreadful time to schedule a game I'm afraid.

You would hope that the traffic control are aware of potential issues and have something in place to ease your getting there.

What a carry on.

We go on the road into Keighley a lot.

No problems traffic wise, probably because Ronnie was not directing it
