Just seen a copy of a letter sent to some supporters reguarding season ticket abuse for the Leigh game.In it states that season ticket coupon is for use in order to admitt a friend only and not visiting suppporters. Now we could say its nothing to do with the club,How we use our ticket weve payed for it and theres nothing in the rules to say how we use the friend coupon.
Lets make it clear as fans the Dewsbury supporters on their travels are probably receive as good a welcome as any fans in the championship. However regarding Leigh weve developed a bit more of a bond. When we go to Leigh they always look after us and we have a great day.So for some of them that turned up at our game.We put a bit of a spread on and used the friends coupon, because thats what they are to also repay them. Now were not talking about a 52 seater were talking about a mini bus.
So if we want to talk about ticket abuse lets talk about free tickets for away matches and how the same people receive them week after week year after year.Lets talk about how we were duped into going to London and all booked the buses etc before we realised the reserves would be turning out.How come the club again with this letter always upset the hardcore of supporters.

Are you not allowed friends from Leigh then?

The issue is that they are clearly intended for you to bring a local friend who will get blown away by the matchday entertainment and skills on show and will be back the next week as a paying fan desperate for more...........

I don't suppose anyone from the club will deign to comment upon this.
Anyone?

You would think the club would be happy just have more people in the ground,no matter where they would come from. They would more likely be buying food, drinks and programmes to add money to the club.We as a club need to be more people friendly to get the crowds in or they will go to other clubs round the area.

would our season ticket holders who gave their bonus ticket away to a visiting supporter who would have paid in be so keen to do so if the lost revenue came directly out of their own pocket . sometimes i wonder just how stupid some people are . The whole point of the tickets is to try to entice local people to try our game out and certainly not for visiting supporters to gain access without paying. so it was only ten or so was it , thats £140 or so lost to the club for no benefit to it . only money isnt it and equalizer is disgusted . Beggers belief in my book .

I think you should have a think about what message you're trying to convey here, take a step back, and consider how that message fits into the big picture surrounding the club, then see if you can figure out who the stupid people are. (If you need a clue, it's you!)
For starters, the money already has come out of those season ticket holders pockets when they bought the season ticket.
Regardless of the intentions of the bring a friend for free scheme, you can't dictate who somebody classes as a friend or not. It will be hoped that the free ticket is used as intended but it's inevitable and should be accepted that not everybody will use that ticket to bring somebody local and new to the game.
What will happen if 300 other season ticket holders gave their free ticket to 300 local people who were going to attend and pay full price anyway?
What on Earth was expected to be achieved by these letters and was it really referred to as season ticket "abuse"? Did somebody seriously decide to put that in writing, really? Abuse of what, where does it say what constitutes a legitimate 'friend' or not? As someone else said, it's ridiculous.
GFDU before you reply, I'd suggest you use your common sense and do a quick u-turn before digging a bigger hole of dumbness trying to take a similar stance to your post above.

I am not an official of the club , i am not an employee of the club , i am not a shareholder of the club and i do not represent the club so my opinions are my own . Having carefully reconsidered my post i a can confirm that i consider stupid to be the appropriate word in this case . Being a loyal supporter does not exclude someone from doing something stupid imo.
Although to be fair i would not have sent letters out myself as i cannot see the benefit from doing so .

You are allowed to do something stupid once in a while, well done for seeing the error of your ways. You may get up off the naughty step!
Now the person who's idea this letter was, they're still on stupid street depending on the actual content.

sorrry Daniel, but I can see GFDU's point - it is of course, the other side of the coin. The bottom line is, though, that nowhere on that ticket are there any terms and conditions printed, and nowhere does it say that the 'friends' should not be supporters of the away side - legally nothing wrong has taken place, and morally, if those supporters were indeed friends or past acquaintances there's nothing wrong with it either, and who is to say that they would have all turned up if they had to pay full whack - times is hard. In other words it is up to the club to either withdraw the offer or tighten up the terms - abuse it aint. What has concerned me more is that in the past, there have been instances when ex players and other chancers have tried to sell me 'complimentary' tickets for a fiver, and a few seasons ago, one car park attendant regularly 'forgot' to give me a ticket, or offered to let me park for a quid, wink wink nudge. Now that is abuse.

The blame lies with the club for not recognising human nature. A set of T&C's could have sorted this out but unfortunately would have been difficult to police. Wouldn't a typical season ticket holder have brought friends and family in the past to try and improve attendances? I know I have. The one thing you can rely on are your season ticket holders to spend money.
Also how much does it cost to send 600 letters, £300? And if by email, and how much time? What does that cost, a couple of hours?
Isn't the biggest issue with the club is it's performances not 10 folks doing a sneaky one? 590 people being told to get their act together because 10 fans use a bit of initiative?
It suggest to me that there's a lack of perspective and common sense management going on.

As everyone will acknowledge I have no friends so have never used the extra tickets in my season ticket. Will I get a reprimand from the club?
Also I have on occasion failed to attend home matches despite having a ticket to do so. I hope I won't get banned.

It won't have been sent to all season ticket holders, just those whose friend ticket stub had an address in or near Leigh.
Even T&C's couldn't prevent this situation, it would be impossible to get the wording right without sounding ridiculous and impossible to enforce. It relies entirely on people knowing the reasoning behind including these free tickets in season tickets and the hope that people use them for that reason. But, perhaps these 10 people don't have any local friends who would want to go to a match at the moment even for free, or maybe all their friends already have season tickets themselves.

You just have to take the rough with the smooth with promotions like this. Review whether it's a success. If it is, do it again. If it isn't don't do it again.

There were 7 tickets given to the Leigh fans. The rest were given to people in our catchment area. Anybody would think the entire following of Leigh fans got in for nowt.Just out of interest how many freebies did we send Leigh.

I think this highlights the club's reliance on money from visiting supporters. The fact is that an idea to try to attract more home supporters stopped a relatively small amount of income from away supporters reaching the club. Whilst it may not have been in the spirit of the deal, the supporters who did this have done nothing wrong within the terms of the bring a friend scheme. To send a letter to them further alienates the supporters in question at a time when support is dwindling. I'm glad to see the staff have time on their hands to deal with matters such as this and also sit around discussing whether the club should have a new nickname.
