Best way they should counter this IMO, and would be brilliant for the game down their is to set up their own Origin series being NZ v Pacific Islanders! The winners of both three games series could then play each other for a champions of origin title etc. The opportunities are endless IMO.
This would have massive intensity and would serve to develop both NZ players, and strengthen the game in the pacific islands. Over time this could develop to be as big as the Aus origin IMO, and this would also serve as a massive alternative to having to jump ship to play in these sort of games, and stop players turning their back on their heritage.
Thought for too long that too many of the islanders also do this to play origin, and if there was a viable alternative, this would increase the possibility of these players stoping with their true international sides and would also develop international RL fantastically.
Imagine how strong the island teams would be in a WC if all the players that declare themselves australain overnight didnt and stayed with these teams, and played for a pacific islanders team in an origin series!!

Why not just add NZ to the origin concept, you could have a round robin format with each team playing each other once and the top two teams contesting a final?Best way they should counter this IMO, and would be brilliant for the game down their is to set up their own Origin series being NZ v Pacific Islanders! Aussies are too arrogent to go for anything different than their 'pinnicle of the game' NSW v Queensland IMO, and they would also argue too much history behind it.
Cant also see them going against the play each other 3 times series concept.
Also if you just add NZ then youre doing nothing with the pacific nations players who Australia (NSW / Queensland) also leech on. A Pacific Origin of NZ v Pacific Islanders (made up of Fiji / Samoa/ Tonga / Cooks) wpuld not only strengthen all of the pacific nations and give us far more viable teams in any WC comp, but it would also make for a fantastic series.
