I can not work this Swinton side out with our performance's, we are so up and down it is unreal, we play the lower sides we don't turn up we play the top sides and we put a decent performance in.
The thing that really worried me today was how we did not gel as a side and this was the same last week, this is really worrying considering how well we was coming together at the beginning of the season.

Yes I said exactly that when they took that penalty. I thought they made a huge mistake there. It was noticeable there were one or two positional changes today and it showed.Definitely not at our best but a win is a win.The turning point for me was when Hunslet took the easy two points when awarded a penalty on our line. Our defence had been poor all day and a try for Hunslet at that stage when they were two points up would probably have killed us off.Morts kicking was excellent and I have no doubt we would have won at York had he been in the side.Having said that I think Ritchie Hawkyard poses a more potent attacking threat. As we saw today maybe both can be accommodated with Ritchie coming off the bench to replace Smithy at hooker. We will need to improve massively next week to trouble Sheffiels but we have seen already this season that this team can rise to the occasion.
It was a disjointed performance and our defence and ball control at times were very poor.
There were some positives. Adam Walker had a huge game and Higsons run and Dodds run were worth the admission fees.
I agree Morts kicking was superb, but this isnt rugby union and other than his kicking Id find it hard to justify his man of the match award.
Otherwise i did really enjoy the game,it could have gone either way. The Hunslet fans were noisy, amusing and added to the atmosphere.
Finally,Scott Ranson looks EXACTLY the same..hes not aged at all! Whats your secret Esther?

If I was in management I would start Higson contract now for next season he is the best centre outside super league.

I wouldnt play Smith at 13, purely because I think Chaz I'anson is one of our most under-rated players. For a guy playing out of position week-in, week out, he runs the ball in hard, offers an extra pivot in attack and tackles like a beast (dropped a few of their guys single handedly). With regards to Mort, I think he made one or two glaring errors, probably due to lack of match practice at full-back. However I think he made up for it with his unbelievable kicking game. I really dont envy steve Mc having to find a place for him in the 13. Dodd finished his tries brilliantly, Kev penny is only ever a good pass away from scoring, and R. Hawkyard is the new Wayne English at full back. But we quite simply need Mort's kicking with the games being as tight as they are i.e York last week.
Credit where credit is due, iv said all along that Hunslet are by far the worst side in our division, but today they looked to have improved a fair bit. Luckily not quite enough to beat us. I think if I was them id get rid of March straight away.

I have been thinking the same. Perhaps he feels it was the complete performance or maybe he just couldn't make the game this week.Missing Phil Hs post match analysis

Just something different I have been thinking about with Smith sometimes we all think we can be the best coach in the world sat in our living room ha ha, like you said we need Mort in our side for his kicking but Hawkyard is class, also Mort did nothing wrong there last year just Hawkyard as been class since he as come into the side.
I think Mort is a very good player at this level on sunday he was not match fit this comes back to a earlier topic we have spoke about in the past Academy side, if we are to compete and become a established side at this level we need some backup for these players who are not playing. Its not fair the coach expecting these guys who don't play for 4,5 6 weeks and to come in and play like they have been playing every week, something needs to be sorted.
Just another thing would someone like Hawkyard be happy being a impact player by swapping with Smithy I don' t think he would, also playing in this league now means our players are going to be seen by bigger clubs first hand. Unhappy players will leave.

If you put the question to fans "what would you rather have at the end of the season 1) win the league with 7 DR players 2) finish in bottom half of the table but have 13 kids and no DR players. Honestly how many fans would say point 2. These are all the decisions what clubs (well the money men within the club) think when sorting there squads out for the up coming season.
Goes back to what Alan and I have said in previous topics for us as a club to establish ourselves with Halifax, Batley, Featherstone's there must be 2 main points that need to be sorted and asap:
1) Agecroft - Main Priority
2) Some sort of second team to support the fringe players.
If we don't get the above sorted and fast then I can't really see what direction the club could in.

The club is without doubt moving forward on the field. We have had a champion winning season and a much better season than I certainly expected.I agree with you Bigtony but as we all know sports is a result driven business, clubs feel like they have to bring these players in to acheive there goals. Don't get me wrong I am all for the kids coming in and developing your own players.

I don't know how I feel about the dual reg players and you pose a very relevant question there.
Our coach attracts good players and super league coaches seem willing to lend us good lads.
We do benefit on field because of this.
As for lads leaving the game thats really sad but it is the nature of sport.
A real conundrum but one saving grace is it affects every club not just us so to some extent does create some equality.
A reserve team would be a real step forward.

They can't. Our loan players have been a real success in my opinion and results are paramount. We can't raise the profile of the club by losing every week. I am not saying it's right or fair.Your rite it is a sad nature of the game, but i thinklads just want a level playing field, how can a semi-pro player whos prob doin a full time job 40/50/60 hrs a wk with about 3 hrs trainin a wk compete with a f/t player who as al the benefits of a sl club behind them, its unfair

But whos saying results would have been any better or worse without dr/loan players and is this not rl's way of gettin a feeder club system off the ground ??They can't.
