If someone came into Oldham with an open wallet, and built a great little ground, and we won promotion to the Championship, and from then on, won the whole lot years on the bounce. Would they let a club like Oldham in SL? The answer is a resounding no, based on the foundations of sand the franchising system is built upon.Whilst in the Championship, crowds would not top 2k (look at current Championship crowds to back that up). With very little media coverage - apart from a small audience on Premier Sports, the Championship recieves hardly any media coverage, and Championship 1 more or less nothing, and because of that hardly any money is generated back to the clubs. What is there to really entice that investor to part with their cash when here is no chance of that investor showing their goods in the top market i.e. Super League where they get everything (media coverage, sponsorhip monies etc).
Now bring back a proper P&R system where results are based on the field of play rather than lies on a document, and you would automtically see crowds rise in the Championship once agai, and therefore investors would feel more inclined to part with their cash.
The franchise system was brought in to help stabilse clubs but it shows it doesn't work, as Bradford have highlighted recently.
